Netcup has canceled its winter sale scheduled for today
The CEO and founder of Anexia. (Netcup's parent company) announced on their customer forums the temporary announcement due to rising costs and difficulty delivering hardware. This month’s winter promotion has been canceled at short notice.
And according to his explanation, the possibility of price increases on existing contracts cannot be ruled out.
Following the price increases of OVH and Hetzner, will Netcup also start?
I personally think it's a bit ridiculous that even though they claim to be "open and transparent", they suddenly announce less than 24 hours before the event that they can't deliver due to out of stock.
I think this is a way to build momentum for subsequent price increases and price increases on existing contracts, and I hope this possibility does not happen.

Their sales are shit so nothing of value lost at least
Pathetic. Of course after OVH and hetz moves netcup also jumps into the train. Let's have a look: will it be 50% or 60% increase. Wanna bet?
I'm quite worried they might raise the price on the existing contract. Currently, their CEO's response is vague and unclear, but they've confirmed they won't rule out the possibility, which is truly frustrating.
If the price increase exceeds that of Hetzner, then they will give away their advantage.
Well, OVH exceeded Hetzner, but OVH offer more bang per buck after comparison of increased prices / specs. Netcup has room. After apathy kicks in "meh, it just 3 EUR..." they will be fine.
Just watch the stock price of OVH. Its not doing anything good for the share holders the last 6 months its minus 20%. The (dedicated servers for 9 euros per month) party is over guys...

Every root server I've purchased from Netcup lists "Permanent Price" as a feature, I wonder how fast that will go out the window.
im paying full pricing for netcup rs 8000 g12 without any discount, if they hike the price up for me, i will riot.
Hardware stock madness will eventually resolve. After all, China is pumping like crazy:
And a lot more. This is heavily subsidized by China and will flood the market this year. It is calculated that even LLM bastards won't be able to absorb that stock so fast.
You highly intelligent guys should keep blaming the stable providers and accuse them of having evil plans for price hikes just to make more money, because the LET providers with the best prices will definitely do better and be rock stable for the next couple of years.
And don't forget to pay with crypto.
I tend to doubt that netcup are planning a big price increase on existing contracts, because they know that this wouldn't be received well by existing customers
It's possible that there'll be a modest price increase at the time of renewal of existing contracts, but if so, I'm sure that netcup will give advance notice about this
As for netcup's canceling today's sale, yes, it seems to be a last-minute decision -- and perhaps for many customers, a disappointing one -- but at the same time, they probably want to try to avoid shooting themselves in the foot/feet, given all of the (price) uncertainty in the present climate, which is understandable, I think. ("We don't want to dig ourselves into a hole that we can't climb out of")
Aha, you forgot electricity price hikes? Electricity prices stabilized many months ago. And VPS prices didn't go down... So yea, about those "evil plans"
Do you honestly believe that business will not bank to the max on this situation?
5GB NVMe EXTRA, GRAB NOW.
Datacenter pricing hasn't returned to what it used to be. They're also being bought out and filled with AI workloads.
(at least, the power dense datacenters are)
Of course they are. Would you turn away deal which could be 2x - 3x market value?
The end is nigh.
for extra money compared to normal package
Yes, I heard that around 2022, due to a shortage of natural gas or energy, they roughly increased the contract prices by about 9%. Additionally, it seems there are no records of price increases for existing contracts.
Anyway, in these difficult times, this amount is acceptable, and I can afford it.
From a certain perspective, one should even praise netcup for canceling today's sale, even if it was a last-minute decision
An alternative would have been to hold the sale and to severely limit the stock available for the sale, but then people would have complained about the lack of stock and have flooded their forums with questions or criticisms regarding the lack of stock
Ultimately, it's hard to win: "You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't"
That is.
However, compared with a large amount of oversold inventory affecting service quality, sometimes canceling an event is also a good idea. At the very least, it can temporarily ensure that existing customer service services are not affected.
Although Netcup has had a period of time when the performance of the Root Server has begun to decline.
I predicted 5-10% sale yesterday, I wasn't that far off now, it's 0% or even negative%
We can only hope. The American century of humiliation is just beginning.
I have been watching https://www.netcup.com/de/server/vps/vps-piko-g11s-12m
for over a year to try to grab one. It now returns a 404 instead of saying "out of stock".:(
The most logical step from a business perspective if you are short on supply + high price on anything you can get is to increase your price between your existing and new service.
It's basically trading reputation for money, which different businesses have different priorities on. Like Hetzner has a pretty good reputation for stuff like Minecraft, and it wouldn't keep that reputation if it just doubled the price of existing servers. Even though it would get more money it would also get less customers in the future. But it can keep its reputation with a price increase for new servers, because everyone knows about the part shortage, then when the shortage is over it can put prices back down and keep getting customers.
Now the price with IPv4 has increased by 0.5 euros, and the price with IPv6 only remains the same as before.
