So now we wait for the date of 16th when services will be shutdown?
He'll be sending out emails over the next week. I suspect each email will give the victim customer 7 days from the time it is sent out, so a shutdown date of the 16th is only for people who got the notice on the 9th.
LOL. VeloxMedia owned by (so-called) Enterprise company spending milllions per year on vmware bills has so much money that they require a trial license or nulled/shared license to run their company. I mean what an irony!
Just got new invoice for $7/y renewal after previously got termination email.
I wonder, if you pay it, does that make you a customer of his and thus not able to be terminated?
If you're using Paypal, you should try paying it and if you get cancelled anyway, chargeback.
What was the title of your product? Did it have "LET" in the name?
Unless someone has some kind of information that doesn't match, I think this is the summary for now:
Anyway, my VPS is still running, haven't received a mail, haven't got "LET" in the descriptive name of the package, but also still have some time to go to file a chargeback. As soon as I receive an email of either termination, "pay me more" or changing DCs I'm gonna file that chargeback. From the past I have the experience that filing a new one after a rejected one for the same service can be troublesome, so I want to make sure that I have some kind of "proof" that I'm not getting delivered what I've been paid for... But that's my way of dealing with it - everyone should do as they think it's best.
While I don't dispute the first two reasons for filing a chargeback, why do it if the datacenter changes? That's not uncommon. Just recently, al.uy had to do that due to technical issues (I would imagine they'd have given a refund if I asked, since they were changing not only DCs but also countries, but I didn't ask), and that was fine. If VeloxMedia only moves DCs, I think that would be a non-issue.
Of course, termination without refund and financial extortion are perfectly valid reasons to chargeback.
Daml
Idk what his objective is after sending termination email then sending invoice.
Yes, it got "LET" in the product name.
Daml?
Maybe not in your opinion, for my use it's a dealbreaker/dealmaker. It's basically not what I've signed up for. I select my VPSes based on which datacenter it is in, geographically and not too many eggs in one basket (i.e. datacenter). I do loadbalancing and failover redundancy with my VPSes (that's why I use LowEnd VPSes; for my use 3 cheap VPSes with distributed risks is better as 1 expensive one looking at total availability).
So basically I've chosen the VPS based on the fact in what country it is located and in what datacenter - moving that may impact latency to my visitors (important for my use) and redundancy (if all VPSes are in the same datacenter and something happens there, I'm still having an issue).
Feel bad for this guy. Happy to spend my charge back on some other vps for him.
Exactly why these kind of scams piss me off.
I mean, Its not much money for me but in some parts of the world $20 is good money.
On the other hand, if it's much money to you, and your livelihood depends on it, I'd think twice before going into business with some random host.
Good old time that i had almost no money, and i had a OVZ NAT server with only 256mb RAM running little projects. I feel bad for this guy too.
Like you said, first world prices become very expensive to third world citizens. Sometimes you don't have choice and have to go with something dodgy cos it's all you can afford....
dispute successfully at Revolut, after I got a email that I can renew my still running service for 4 usd per MONTH and they just shut down my service.
thanks for the mail, perfect proof of your arrogance to your customers and stupidity
Same goes for women (or men, depending on personal preferences); but as it goes with VPSes, you have to ask yourself what happens when you loose one.
Most of the time, I'm fairly certain Eric was complicit in the exit-scam from before BF.
But it's actually stuff like this that actually points to them possibly telling the truth about purchasing the company from Lewis, and just simply don't care how much of the debt he has to pay in chargebacks. In some cases, the dispute fees he'll be charged will be more than the service itself.
I guess either way Lewis will be screwed from deciding to go the BF exit-scam route instead of just taking the L from failing to make a profit for 4 years running the business and shutting the business down in an orderly way.
At the very least, he should have transferred the business into a company structure, debts and all, well before trying to sell it to someone else, and ideally from the start.
I guess "It was never really yours" also applies to VPS...
💀💀💀
$20/year is more or less the average low-end telco expenditure in third world. Equivalent to roughly 20-40 lowend meals.
So, it's still affordable.
But, money is money. People would make a fuss over $0.34 crypto transaction fee
cant believe this is still going, feels like i dodged a nuke during BF
I believe that he sold the ‘company’. I also believe ‘Eric’ when he said that Lewis didn’t have legal representation for the sale. Unfortunately, Lewis might have screwed himself even more. Wonder if the payment processors will come after him - he’s not exactly hard to find.
‘Eric’ is a different person, but I don’t buy anything he has said. He likely runs a few small dodgy companies, but there’s no way he’s capable of running anything as large as he claims.
My money remains on ‘Eric’ being Justin Morgan (owner of Shield Management), and his legal department being Kohl & Cook (BentHost is registered at their address). They don’t strike me as the type of lawyers that are competent in GDPR, so that would explain a lot.
I haven't received any email yet. If competence was a sport, he'd be disqualified fast for lack of effort.
From the tone of the e-mail (which was markedly different to Eric's), I suspect they do actually have lawyers who would be able to read the regulations and get it approximately right.
Everything Eric was saying was so dumb that no competent lawyer could have possibly given him that advice. It's mostly likely that he was just being a dick and somehow getting satisfaction out of wasting our time. I should have picked up on his bullshit earlier I guess.
From what I can tell so far, they have still screwed up their legal obligations, but I guess we'll have to run down the clock to see if they figure it out in the next 11 days. If Eric is intending to operate this as a legal business owner, he's likely to still be looking at a hefty fine.
He's doing it in batches of 100 over the next week or so because "there's no rush". I suspect he just wants to punish people who bought LET deals by making them wait. I think this whole debacle really shook him up.
He's gonna need a new name, brand, logo, and maybe a new career.
His LinkedIn profile picture definitely gives off the same vibe as his behavior and work.
