  • @jar said: This has been one of the most exhausting days of running MXroute to date. I am not happy. I absolutely will retaliate with some powerful new monitoring around user account access.

Definitely not a fun New Year's party. Hope everything will go uphill from now <3

Unlikely. I usually restock the others a bit, but the small one I very rarely do.

Well, it's done. And yes Claude wrote these notes. I threw down a bunch of words and said "make this not suck": https://docs.mxroute.com/docs/changelog/mxroute-4.0.html

I'm expecting to have to roll back the whole release sometime in the next 7 hours because I've lived long enough to know that whatever can go wrong will go wrong. But when I do, I'm paying $500 for whoever sends me a video of themselves in Los Angeles pissing on Murphy's grave.

I've allowed myself the freedom to fail here. I'm not expecting to fail hard, but the idea that customers won't find bugs I missed just seems to require far more hubris than I have. If you never risk making a mistake, you never grow (personally or professionally).

Sorry the Forgot Password link wasn't rendering on the login page and I had accidentally swapped the email template with another. Try again, but make sure you're at https://management.mxroute.com.

Okay one more try. I see why it failed I just can't explain why my tests didn't fail for the same reason. But I should at least fix the problem I see once before digging further.

"Login temporarily unavailable" Working on it? I'll try again a bit later.

quick feedback: little annoying management wants user@domain but panel wants just user. not sure if it matters.

I got that once earlier but couldn't replicate it. I'll have to add some debug around it to see if I can catch it.

The panel login you shouldn't need anymore. On management you're logging into hostbill, and we're hijacking the HB DirectAdmin module's one click login function, stealing the token and sending it to the new panel instead.

Fair enough, I prob wouldn't have tried panel if I'd got into management!

I tried management again just now and still "unavail", even turned off ublock though nothing was showing blocked, no dice. I don't know if my login may be unusual though, I'm using a {timestamp}.local as primary domain.

Doubt it matters but tried with LibreWolf as well, same. Original attempts with Firefox just for info.

No real rush at this point, just wanted to see the UI. I'll check periodically.

Okay so it looks like this may be a situation of invalid credentials and a poor error message. I was interpreting the response as an API failure and not a credential failure. It fits the variables I think because you saw it consistently but login was never verifiably broken. Let me know if you're still seeing that.

Well it does say invalid email or password now but these credentials work via thunderbird & directadmin (without the domain ofc). Do I need to force a pw change? The docs say use existing credentials.. I wonder if it doesn't like some chars in pw or something.

It's the hostbill credentials, the ones you used at accounts.mxroute.com.

    Anyway solved, thanks.

By unusually popular demand, we now have automated 2FA removal for MXroute accounts. However, be prepared to spread your cheeks and lift your sack for the webcam. If you use a fake name, you're shit out of luck.

New "Calendar & Contacts" section added to panel.mxroute.com. Currently hidden for reseller customers using reseller's custom URLs, as dav.mxroute.com can't be white labeled at the moment.

Any timeline on when dav can be white labeled for resellers?

Every time I think about it, I start to wonder if we're building Frankenstein's monster by creating so many layers of customization for branding. I'm sort of locked in that mental battle and not yet certain of the solution I'm looking for, so it's hard to say. Something cool will come from the internal struggle I think, at 3AM some random morning.

    New API is live: https://api.mxroute.com

In the new control panel the "API Keys" section will help you enable it. The goal here is that maybe our next server doesn't have a licensed control panel, maybe it's a completely in-house stack with backwards compatibility over the API so that end users never have to change their workflows or code again.

jar my friend, I have been with mxroute for 2-3 years.
The only reason I would have preferred Purelymail is their simple API.
But with this new API, you have won over the market. Super excited to create some integrations using your API (for personal use, ofc).
    Thanks so much!

Let me know if you run into trouble. I'm calling it "beta" while I collect feedback. There may be some edge cases that I need to account for, but all of the quirks we've worked out so far with the new panel should be accounted for in the API. I spent an entire day auditing it and making little tweaks that "should" make it perfect.

The sky is the limit. One thing I've been meaning to create after this is a browser addon that auto generates and creates aliases for website registrations.

That'd me neat. Vibe coding can do it very easily. Just get an API done.

Gotta be careful with vibe coding. But I know you are, you know how to code fine. But all of these people who don't even know how to read it are going to make an interesting 2026 😂
