HostDzire VPS Suspended Without Notice – KYC Demanded Before Any Explanation

    Most likely that happened to you. At the time, it was seriously under resourced and definitely a target of attack as a result.

    The days of reflection amplification attack are long gone, it's safe to use chrony as I do on many other exposed nodes. Singapore or Japan are handling 100k requests per second without issue which happen to run on Leaseweb servers through HostDzire. The problem is clearly only in India location. My theory is incompetent cybercrime police department that sees my IP in logs of a seized PCs and simply issues standard complain letter to the provider.

    Assuming it was run normally like other locations, I would assume:

    • bad/compromised image in india
    • compromised hypervisor/networking gears
    • faked complaint (a DoS, but what's the competitor of NTP server?)

    But your servers IP should come after a DNS lookup for public NTP server. Would it reverse DNS to something NTPish?

    Yeah, that makes sense. It's possible they're sending strong word letters without concrete lead.
    I was contemplating to buy HostDzire India location and VeloxMedia 😅

    Although i have sent you details using PM, but since you have replied here so i have reply here as well.

    In your case this how it happened:

    When we got 1st complain, we opened ticket in your asked and asked about the uses details, #021053 is the ticket.

    We got no reply so in same ticket after few days we suspended the vps.
    Then in same ticket you replied. and said you using it for ntp pool.
    We asked you to do the KYC,
    After KYC was done we replied you about complain and asked you to reinstall the VPS.

    You agreed, so we unsuspended, this ticket later was Auto Closed For Inactivity.
    Last reply: 7th July 2025
    But important thing to notice is you didnt reinstall the VPS after backup or looking which we had asked you.

    So,
    After that we got another complain about your vps on Oct 2025
    So this time we suspended all 4 Indian Cloud Vps you had with HostDZire, you had other locations vps as well with us, we didnt suspend that.

    This time you made ticket on 14th Nov and asked about suspension.
    We replied you that we got another complain about your vps that is why we suspended it.
    And also said we cant bring your vps online anymore. after that no reply came regarding refund or anything like that, and later ticket was closed again for Inactivity.

    Just becase we recieved another complain later,
    We had to suspend all your indian cloud vps to prevent any further misuses. even this time we kept other location vps active.

    And since the 2nd suspension, no new complain came till now.

    And since you had not replied, vps is still in your account and suspended,
    We have not cancelled the vps because its paid till mid 2026.

    If you had asked for refund in ticket, We would have provided, but its 100% sure this time we would not have unsuspended the vps.

    Since i cant share senstive data here, but i have shared you some proof using PM.
    Please confirm here that we have provided you proof for another complain copy which came after few month due to which we had suspended your vps again.

    If you need refund for remaining days, you are welcome to ask using ticket, we will send you refund.

    I think i have provided enough data here in public.

    Sounds about right. The whole system is perfunctory by design.

    Received a phishing email? Ban the email provider.
    Financial fraud? Freeze all bank accounts that ever sent or received money from the suspected account.
    Outdated versions of an app used as an attack vector?Ban the app website.
    Copyright complaint? Ban the entire platform.

    Abuse rate is low, Like 1-2 abuse each month, but complain comes mostly for cybercrime.

    Abuse rate is low, Like 1-2 abuse each month, but complain comes mostly for cybercrime.

    No one knows. The OP doesn't want to do KYC and I think he's just whining to get a chance to backup data from the suspended vps or delete everything incriminating on it.

    I can confirm that I received redacted document that asks for info about specific IP address for a specific short timespan. No evidence of wrongdoing.

    I can also confirm that I didn't reinstall the VPS as agreed because I did thorough investigation of server logs and found no evidence of any malicious activity, which I reported in the ticket. The same ntp service running (chrony) was still there and nothing extra. Yeah my bad that I wanted to save time with reinstalling to the same config as before. I still maintain I did nothing wrong or illegal there, the same setup runs on dozen VPS around the world and only India had ever such issues.

    So that's why I think it reflects the poorly on the work of the cyberpolice and perhaps also the overly proactive providers that interpret ip info request as task to shutdown the servers. The first time it happened I was accused that I provided fake info in the account (I did not) and that I'm from India (also I'm not) as pretext to do KYC. Second time I was asked for KYC again even if I did it already, which I didn't understand.

    In the end I opened ticket asking for refund and will end my attempt to help in underserved India zone. I'll choose another region where it's more appreciated like Vietnam, I got nice feedback from a local guy helping me get good deals.

    Sounds about right. The whole system is perfunctory by design.

    Received a phishing email? Ban the email provider.
    Financial fraud? Freeze all bank accounts that ever sent or received money from the suspected account.

    Copyright complaint? Ban the entire platform.

    That really seems to be the case. The good thing is they can't ban NTP servers globally (well they can but would be stupid), so users from India will fetch time from other servers in Asia but the police won't send complaints or user info requests there.

    When we got 1st complain, we opened ticket in your asked and asked about the uses details, #021053 is the ticket.

    We got no reply so in same ticket after few days we suspended the vps.
    Then in same ticket you replied. and said you using it for ntp pool.
    We asked you to do the KYC,
    After KYC was done we replied you about complain and asked you to reinstall the VPS.

    You agreed, so we unsuspended, this ticket later was Auto Closed For Inactivity.

    But important thing to notice is you didnt reinstall the VPS after backup or looking which we had asked you.

    So,
    After that we got another complain about your vps on Oct 2025
    So this time we suspended all 4 Indian Cloud Vps you had with HostDZire, you had other locations vps as well with us, we didnt suspend that.

    This time you made ticket on 14th Nov and asked about suspension.
    We replied you that we got another complain about your vps that is why we suspended it.
    And also said we cant bring your vps online anymore. after that no reply came regarding refund or anything like that, and later ticket was closed again for Inactivity.

    Just becase we recieved another complain later,
    We had to suspend all your indian cloud vps to prevent any further misuses. even this time we kept other location vps active.

    And since the 2nd suspension, no new complain came till now.

    And since you had not replied, vps is still in your account and suspended,
    We have not cancelled the vps because its paid till mid 2026.

    If you had asked for refund in ticket, We would have provided, but its 100% sure this time we would not have unsuspended the vps.

    Please confirm here that we have provided you proof for another complain copy which came after few month due to which we had suspended your vps again.

    I can confirm that I received redacted document that asks for info about specific IP address for a specific short timespan. No evidence of wrongdoing.

    I can also confirm that I didn't reinstall the VPS as agreed because I did thorough investigation of server logs and found no evidence of any malicious activity, which I reported in the ticket. The same ntp service running (chrony) was still there and nothing extra. Yeah my bad that I wanted to save time with reinstalling to the same config as before. I still maintain I did nothing wrong or illegal there, the same setup runs on dozen VPS around the world and only India had ever such issues.

    So that's why I think it reflects the poorly on the work of the cyberpolice and perhaps also the overly proactive providers that interpret ip info request as task to shutdown the servers. The first time it happened I was accused that I provided fake info in the account (I did not) and that I'm from India (also I'm not) as pretext to do KYC. Second time I was asked for KYC again even if I did it already, which I didn't understand.

    So, the likely chance is fraudulent report made by business competitors, or even the police themselves as they might be chasing some KPI nation-wide as chasing real criminals is much harder

    Nah if never happened before
    Complaint were always real, and 2 diff diff State Cyber crime police won't send you fake complain.

    I am sure his vps was compromised, I am not blaming he did it but it's sure that inside vps had something which caused it.

    Anyways it's not my job to question to cyber crime department that where they saw the ip and details about it.
