Also nice. There's a Christmas thingy downtown. Might stop by if I can find a sitter.

did a few posts, and voila, hello old friend headache.. i cannot place what actually does it? why? is it maybe dark theme? trying with the bright for now.. is it the nuisance of constantly flickering and changing banners on the right? something here does it to my head. i used to get headaches from too much time on the phone, but figured out it was because i'd end up kinda tilting my head forward too much, so eventually by controlling my posture while browsing stuff on the phone i was able to prevent headaches. what to do to avoid them while partaking in LET threads? trial and error.

Have you tried getting your eyes tested recently? It does sound a lot like the symptoms of eyestrain.

Also, mess with the font sizes/etc. I was told when I was young to start with small text and slowly increase the font size until I can easily read the screen without straining at all, even go like one size larger than that as too small/big can cause issues.

There's also these special glasses which are easy on the eyes if you're much on a screen. They filter some of the light.

I got them like a couple of years ago, just cos it rests the eyes, don't need it for sight.

I've thought about buying a pair to try them out to see if I notice anything. I don't have issues but always wondered if I would "feel" a difference with them.

I really notice the difference, especially if I'm behind a screen for days in a row.

  • fuck yes!!! third fucking time is the charm, as per fucking usual.. i was able to make VPS use VPN and work as SOCK proxy!!!!!!!!!!!! so many fucks is because i literally spent somewhere nearing 10hrs trying to make it work. every time revealing next tiny bit to help.. took me hours just to figure out how to keep SSH connection out of the VPN traffic and hence not to drop me every time i turn on the wireguard VPN, and finally today on 3rd attempt i was able to use VPS with wireguard VPN and socks proxy using DANTE!! fucking yes!!! there's been a lot of info churning, lots of trial and error, and finally I got it. actually there's no need to allow or disallow any IPs, the main idea is to route traffic to/from SSH port and DANTE connect port outside of the VPN traffic, so needed just 2 simple rules added to VPN config (well 2 per port, so 4 rules), and it works.. i am really happy. this may or may not be a game changer for me.. thanks to everyone who believed in me. it's fucking awesome.

no i do agree, i am getting old and my eyesight is deteriorating. TBH i can read books with much more ease if i turn very bright light onto the pages, so i bought a little lamp to help with it. but screens - all just need to move away a bit and avoid tilting head, then evertthing gets into right focus and i have no issues there. but of course reading fine-print like some ingredients on a candybar or similar - i cannot do it unless i put it under bright light (using phone or that lamp).. it's different with PC screen a bit because if it's day light bright color scheme - when turning head onto a darker screen i can see those color lines from the bright screen., hence i prefer using darker styles to avoid that.

sounds like you are trying to trap me somehow? i mean, i learned how to do what i needed to do. what else? i reconfirmed that hard work and perseverance always pay off sooner of later. as usual i understand that it is very, i would say extremely useful to write up what you are trying to do, sometimes several times, it really helps kick your brain into higher gear and make it work and churn the data and eventually spit out a solution.

my next project will be trying to set up that at home using windows and vmware install of ubuntu24. i want to see if i can make such VPS from my home PC. the problem is that i am behind CGNAT, which doesn't allow open ports, so VPN should be acting as the port opener, and things seem very complicated once again.. i also tried to do this already and spent a few hours but with no avail. involves stupid windows firewall, redirecting vmware and/or other instances to use VPN, etc.. this is more of a personal project to check some theory i have.. any ideas? =)

No trap, just whenever there's issues, I always try to learn something new from the experience/situation.
vmware is pretty easy, especially on windows so you shouldn't have issues. Though if you have a spare PC or old desktop, I say either install on bare metal or use something like proxmox. I would say esxi/vsphere but since broadcom bought vmware, they kind of killed all faith in the free versions.

As a heads up, IPv6 is now natively supported in our Toronto location :) The list at https://my.racknerd.com/index.php?rp=/knowledgebase/25/Do-you-provide-IPv6-.html has been updated.

Yeah, even though I've done sysadmin things for decades, whenever I'm doing something new for the first time (and usually second and sometimes third) time, at a minimum I copy all of my commands from the history into a text file, along with snippets of any file I modified in the process, and stick it in a git repo with just a descriptive name for the text file (no directories). It's amazing how many times I've wanted to do the same thing a year later, and this really helps just remember all the steps, and I create a second text file for the repeat - and then look to see if there were any differences.

If I do something more than about 5 or 6 times and there's lots of manual steps, I'll probably try to make a script to do most of it so it's easier the next time.

Yep, seems like Ireland is listed in that link.

    Do you provide IPv6?

RackNerd can allocate native IPv6 in the following locations:

    Los Angeles DC-02
    Los Angeles DC-03
    Utah
    Toronto, Canada
    Strasbourg, France
    Dublin, Ireland

After ordering your VPS, or if you've already ordered a VPS with RackNerd, just open a ticket requesting as many as you like (up to 100). We allocate these free of charge.

If you are a dedicated server customer in any of the above datacenter locations, you can submit a ticket to request a /64 IPv6 allocation at no additional charge.

You can open a support ticket here: https://my.racknerd.com/submitticket.php?step=2&deptid=1
