    It can get hard.

    that's what she said..

 Phuket! I don't know how I always end up.commenting unintended inuendos.

INNUENDO.. when i was young, my parents bought me my first PC - 386DX40. and afterwards they bought me a 14400 baud modem.. and i instituted a BBS at home, people would call my modem using theirs, my phone line would always be busy (overnight), and basically they could get files I was sharing, and upload theirs, and leave messages and read others' messages. very very archaic.. i called my BBS - INNUENDO. i was very into Queen back then, and it's one of their songs, and a name for the whole album.. was so much fun.. my dad kept expecting a huge phone bill but it was never different cause they called me, and it was always from same city, so no extra charges.. but he was freaking out first couple of months..

I wish I could say I could relate to any of these. Infact, many of the terms are alien to me. I have used dialup connections and stuff in the past though, cause back then, India was slower at catching up with the latest tech in the field.

well to use dialup you needed a modem.. BBS is Bulletin Board System, it's like a forum in text mode.. =) was..

then i joined FIDONET, had my own node at home, participated in echoes (like forum again, just all over the world).. modems were used to exchange those posts in echoes. and then central hubs would exchange with hubs in other cities.. it sounds cumbersome, but happened very fast.. and those who were hubs - they usually were somehow connected to avoid paying city -to city calling fees. and eventually they switched to exchanging all posts and stuff via internet.. and finally fidonet became obsolete.. it still exists tho, i think,..,

I believe I saw something of the sorts you mention in Young Sheldon where he gets access to a computer.

    Love that series!

    Me too.

Might have to rewatch it, it's so much fun.

For the rest: You can download the correct iso via ISO list and mount it from there to boot from it and install Ubuntu.

so it means i initially did wrong ISO [Server Install Image]. and what should have i used? THE option that says [Netboot tarball] then? cause it's the only option besides desktop and WSL ones. then i could boot and install then?

why that admin is so cryptic... can't just point to which exact ISO i need? just awful..

in any case i decided to try and compile dante-server first (several attempts if needed), because at least i can rebuild Debian 13 this way if something fucks things up...

Watched MI: FR completely and I believe this was the perfect ending to the franchise. Loved it!

the ending was very colorful with those planes and all. very very eye pleasing.

Yes, and I love the way they kept playing with the aspect ratio

    second that

Esp the scene where he ejects from USS Ohio where he turns that wheel to open the ejection chamber. With each turn of the wheel, the screen expands to cover full scree. It was visually pleasing to watch.

his face is not that pleasing anymore.. he old.. but his 1st wife.. omg.. she aged worse..

Katie Holmes? Nicole Kidman is my favourite among his ex-wives though. She has gotten old, but, was really good in Special Ops: lioness.

she too old.. and she did breast augmentation.. and started showing it right away on TV.. now them breasts look nasty IMHO..

Oh, I was talking mostly about the face. Whatever she did with the face has seriously backfired.

    backfired all around.. =)

Yes, I mean, it's true. She just got lucky that her role in Special Ops required a stone-faced senior operative.

    Lol

I am not even kidding. But, I did learn that one of Morgan Freeman's hands was affected by some nerve damage. He wears black gloves throughout the series. Frankly, that hand acted better than Kidman's face.

Yeah, they've diverged a bit over time, but the fundamentals are pretty much the same. apt comes directly from Debian, and internally uses dpkg (Debian Package) under the hood (although I think they've been working on their own package system recently).

Ubuntu started as an almost direct Debian fork maybe 15 years ago as was basically just Debian plus a few things to make it nicer for desktop use. Debian has always supported desktop use, but most people use in primarily for servers. I've run Windows on the desktop again for about a decade but before that I was happily using Ubuntu for about 8 years as my only OS at home on both desktop and laptop. I've only ever had some version of Debian on any of my servers though, apart from a few that won't provide it (e.g. Oracle).

oops. correction.. his second wife.. apparently he was married 3 times. and none stuck..

Oh yah. You were talking about Kidman. Yah, she prolly has gone under the knife multiple times bye now or maybe botox or something. But, man, she used to be so damn beautiful

yep can't deny that.. she was really good looking. ages ago..

Yup. Shouldn't have done too much botox I am guessing. It has affected her acting skills as well, almost 0 expression on face

true that! she is not the Nicole we learned to love..

Yup! I loved her in the older movies. She also acted in the movie Lion, which is a real story about a kid who got lost in India, was adopted by a couple in Australia, and based on his vague memory and Google Earth, found his long-lost family. Great watch. Dev Patel plays the actual person.

    Sounds like a good watch.

Yes, it is. Infact, in the end of the movie, they do show the actual person, his old family (in India) and also a sequence shows where his Australian adoptee mother meets his actual biological mother. I loved it, but, there are definitely some scenes where you genuinely tear up. I am not gonna talk about it anymore, to avoid spoiling.

i know you guys busy doing your back and forth but i have news on my Swedish VPS.. i was pointed out that it is unmanaged service and when buying, it clearly indicated only Debian 13 was available. which i knew... so here are the words copied:

Easiest for you would be to wait for our Ubuntu Templates (no ETA yet, can be days/weeks).

For the rest: You can download the correct iso via ISO list and mount it from there to boot from it and install Ubuntu.

so it means i initially did wrong ISO [Server Install Image]. and what should have i used? THE option that says [Netboot tarball] then? cause it's the only option besides desktop and WSL ones. then i could boot and install then?

why that admin is so cryptic... can't just point to which exact ISO i need? just awful..

in any case i decided to try and compile dante-server first (several attempts if needed), because at least i can rebuild Debian 13 this way if something fucks things up...

thanks for advice. talk to yous later.

Back temporarily. Why don't you just try Debian? Unless there's something very specific you need, chances are you won't even notice the difference.

Ubuntu is derived from Debian. The main differences are that Ubuntu takes newer builds from upstream packages and pushes them to production earlier, whereas Debian usually insists on a year in unstable before considering them production ready. Ubuntu also has more desktop features installed by default and supports a greater range of consumer hardware by adopting binary-only blobs by default instead of opt-in.

For server stuff, you'll probably find both are fine for whatever you're doing.

Thanks for more info. Well, I had been a primarily Windows user for almost 2 decades till last year, when I decided to completely ditch Windows after I migrated to 11 and hated it to my core. But, last year during the BF thread, I was contemplating with TrK, chitree and others as to which distro I should use. People posted various suggestions, cause my main requirement was have less than 1GB RAM at idle (been obsessed since an Italian team made an Arch distro for the PS4 with jwm as dm, that uses less than 400MB on idle).
Anyways, after a lot of thoughts and contemplation I decided to go with Lubuntu, the distro I had most experience with. Never regretted the decision. Now, I run Windows on a VM on my Lubuntu host. Use Windows only for Adobe suite and I am extremely happy.

Hell yeah. The RackNerd hype train is leaving.

    Full steam ahead!

Chooo chooo or woot woot, whichever you like.

Unlike both, first one reminds me of the Beatles ;)

Oh man, I have only heard about the Beatles. They were a thing probably when I was a kid to understand what even music was. But, they did visit India and it was a huge think back then.,

Sure was. Not old enough either but sure love their music.

Andy Samberg and his old usual team. Love those kinda movies. I have found Adam Sandler movies to throw off similar vibes and employ similar kinda comedy, which I absolutely love.
