    Well, usually we have people from multiple timezones on this thread. So, hyping was mostly equally shared. This year though some of the usual hype squad members aren't very active :(

    For example, last year while US/UK/EU members of the hype squad handled hyping for a time period, we Indians used to handle the other. This time though trk, xpress and sikkygoose aren't very active.

    Yeah, can't blame them. Life outside is soooooo beautiful! Feeding the birds in a bit.

    oh yeah.. a few bent ones, and you're fcuked. it is so hard to straighten those.. like it was made to go wrong at any mishandling..

    Some of those pins are trivial and might not affect the performance in any major way, but, if you mess up one of those rimporrant pins, for most average customers, it's game over.

    the thing is, if you cannot insert a pin, it is bent and means that whole CPU doesn't fit fully in.. unless you break the pin, which happens on its own after you keep trying to adjust it..

    Yah. I built my first in 2021 and haven't had to go through that sweaty palms moment since then. Hope I don't have to again :lol:

    i built my first in 2001.. LOL.. from spare parts taken out of PCs found by the side of the road in the little development i used to live at back then.. and it was building and building and rebuilding ever since. up until 2018. at this point i am convinced it is much more beneficial and way easier just to buy one prebuilt and ready to go. even overclocked on the plant, if that is affordable. maybe not these days, but still i am sure plants are producing PCs from parts they bought 2-3 years ago, so should be extra expensive just yet...

    Oh yah, I regularly watch those restoration videos. Makes me wonder why I don't find gold on the sides of road here :lol: esp given much of the ewaste does end up here.

    no i got reply last night saying "mount an iso as a quick workaround" which didn't tell me much, thus all my questions here, since i know many of you guys are linux pros..

    Do they just expect you to study and understand their infrastructure and then figure out how to mount an iso on their hardware that you dont have full access to??? That's just odd and a useless response more than being vague which I previously mentioned. It's like shifting blame to the customer for the provider's lack of proper planning.

    i guess it's assumed that anyone getting LET BF offer knows their way around Linux and ISOs and such..

    But that still doesn't explain how you are supposed to mount an iso if the provider doesn't give you the tools to do that. This is interesting though. BTW, can you tell me what you get when you boot the VPS. Is there any lightweight distro or something already running there?

    just debian 13. i think rescue is available too.. can't recall now, no menu option is available now, everything complains that it cannot be accessed while server is performing a task..

    If he hasn't yet answered, he is trying to run Ubuntu 24 to install and setup dante-server on a VPS that has Debian running currently. They don't have Ubuntu yet, so, he has been asked to add Ubuntu ISO on his own. But, the provider hasn't provided any specific instructions on how to add the ISO and boot from it, since the managing panel or dashboard on the provider doesn't seem to have such an option.

    This might be a very foolish suggestion. But, would it be possible to download and bott off an ISO using the grub commandline?

    maybe.. i am yet to try all the advice i received.. server is still performing task.. still inaccessible.

    Dude, at this point, it'd be safe to say this is unacceptable. How many days has it been stuck at the same performing task status?

    BTW, anyone here have experience with bending the pins back to their original position. I have seen people recommend either a razor blade or a plier. If you have done this before, which one would you recommend?

    Yah, I haven't built many PCs to face this issue but the images and videos online of bent pins scares me. So, wa prepping for something like that in the future.

    I can relate. Soooooo easy to make things worse when you start messing with that. Still don't though. Hardheaded like that.

    Futurama is a great cartoon. There;s this episode about a dog he had.. even now i feel deeply about it.. basically main character disappeared and they kept showing as the time goes and the dog is waiting.. tears were shed... lots of fun bringing weed was smoked.. and yet i still have water in my eyes just thinking about it.. i like animals. very much. and that episode was a real tearjerker.. it is made by Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, one of the cartoons on TV that time and time again praises family values..

    If that brought you to tears, might not be a good idea to watch the movie on Hachiko or Frankenweenie. I teared up watching thoe
