But yeah, could mount an image and it should work.

this is the part i am unfamiliar with..

Does the provider's faq or any other document provide details about the steps to mount iso drive?

nope.. one of those 6-article knowledge bases..

BTW has anyone watched the movie K-Pax?

    No.

You have to if you are into sci-fi mind-f kinda movies

I'll ad it to my watch list. When I'm in the mood for it I like them.

What's your most favourite sci-fi / mind f movie? Mine is still prolly Fight Club followed closely by Source code maybe

hehe HACKERS is my all time fav.. combines understated culture with young Jolie.. I saw it first when i was 15.. was really inspired.. =)

has you seen "13th Floor"? or i also loved The 5th Element. Bruce in his prime and young Mila.. oof.. another great underrated movie by Luc Besson is DOBERMAN, very violent.. and of course the TAXI series - the best. those last 2 are not sci-fi tho

    This one - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0113243/?

Man so many great suggestions there. I havent seen or even heard about many of them. Just like my music, I also have very weird taste when it comes to movies as well

yep that's the one. i mean, it has nothing on MR ROBOT, but it was still quite interesting. first attempts at computer related movies. and then came MATRIX and changed everything..

and then Martix creators changed themselves.. Twin brothers became twin sisters.. OMG..

    When did that happen?

anyone ever installed linux OS from ISO on a remote VPS?

i asked earlier but maybe post was too long so got ignorrrred..

I did reply to that asking if the VPS would let you run another process when the manager was showing a task was in progress.
On RackNerd for example with solusvm, once they add your custom iso, it's as easy as just choosing it as the first boot option and using the browser based VNC to install

oh thanks. somehow i missed it. currently nothing is available there, just performing task and any other tab or page says "cannot do nothing while performing task". so i gotta wait for admin to fix it for me, i guess. then try again something else..

Are you able to access the BIOS settings and set the boot drive? Or, how do they expect you to boot from the ISO?

i think i saw the boot option, but can't recall. right now nothing is accessible.. and it takes multiple days to get a reply on the ticket. so probably monday..

That's sad. Maybe try to get in touch with on LET if they are a provider here and see if they can move things along.

it's a thing with offers on LET, didn't you know? quite often little to no support is included in price of the offers. =) so then support is "delayed" until there's nothing else to do, then they help those who bought VPS via LET. not everyone does it though.. like RackNerd for example.

    Who we talking?

    heartbeat-it..

    They not good?

they only have debian 13, i wanted ubuntu, they said it'll be next month, although on the offer it said "debian 13 only, others will be next week", anyway, i have complications installing ubuntu24 myself, i tried and VPS has been "performing a task" for the past 14 hours.. and reply from support takes days.. so i am asking here now for advice on how to go about installing ubuntu when VPS is hopefully back and is equipped with Debian 13 once again. i never did install linux on a VPS other than a quick menu option. now i'll have to try ISO and mounting it and other things.. not sure.. maybe i will keep trying compiling the software i need on Debian 13, as at least it doesn't screw up the OS, or at least i can rebuild it via simple menu option in the dashboard. I need my Swedish VPS to work for me.. I bought the "doubled" one with 2GB RAM for €12.24, couldn't catch the €6.66 offer. as such, i am uncomfortable with it idling..

Oh I see, yeah that's a bitch. I wanted to use Ubuntu but have no problem running Debian for once.

the package i need was not included yet in Deb13 repositories, as it just came out a month or so ago, AFAIK. but it is in Ubuntu 24 which I am used to quite a bit.. Debian is generally a less "full-featured" Ubuntu, so i have no issues using it, like Debian 12 or 11. But only 13 is available now on those Swedish VPS.

Oh now I understand why you couldn't directly go for Ubuntu 24

yeah it only allows Debian 13, nothing else.. i gues it's a process of setting up templates to work with installs. dunno how it works but probably takes time,, and since it's LET-only offer - it is not a priority for them, as i mentioned earlier.. many offers in Megathread and on LET BF in general and even not BF offers quite often say support is very limited.

Is this a powerful VPS or a basic one? If nothing else you might have to try just running an Ubuntu docker on the debian os and see if that works, till the provider gives you a permanent solution to the mounting iso problem

If nothing else you might have to try just running an Ubuntu docker on the debian os and see if that works, till the provider gives you a permanent solution to the mounting iso problem

thanks, will keep that in mind. it is actually a good idea. but probably compiling dante server on Debian 13 would be an easier task that setting up docker, then finding or creating image.. sounds cumbersome.. i know docker even less than i know how to compile things.. although using docker in general..

Oh then, I guess compiling on debian would be the first option. If that doesn't pan out, you can always keep u untu docker as another roption.

this is the part i am unfamiliar with..

Does the provider's faq or any other document provide details about the steps to mount iso drive?

nope.. one of those 6-article knowledge bases..

And upon contacting them, what do they have to say when requesting details about mounting a custom iso?

    waiting to get a reply..

It's been more than 3 days now right?

no i got reply last night saying "mount an iso as a quick workaround" which didn't tell me much, thus all my questions here, since i know many of you guys are linux pros..

OMG..

    When did that happen?

between martix 3 and matrix 4.. it was a long time.. first one changed, so they were called "siblings" for a while, now they are sisters.. it's a weird world..

Oh yah, I do remember. I stopped after matrix 2 haven't watched the others. Got hooked on John wick after that.

BTW watched Nobody 2 last week. Imo, a major disappoinemtn compared to Nobody

    yeah was a bit boring..

Exactly. Nobody felt like a movie with John wick-like potential. Nobody 2 destroyed that.

That's just a very vague reply given the provider gives no further information on their knowledgebase or on the panel.

Do they just expect you to study and understand their infrastructure and then figure out how to mount an iso on their hardware that you dont have full access to??? That's just odd and a useless response more than being vague which I previously mentioned. It's like shifting blame to the customer for the provider's lack of proper planning.

i guess it's assumed that anyone getting LET BF offer knows their way around Linux and ISOs and such..

But that still doesn't explain how you are supposed to mount an iso if the provider doesn't give you the tools to do that. This is interesting though. BTW, can you tell me what you get when you boot the VPS. Is there any lightweight distro or something already running there?

  • I dunno what happens to LET around this time for me. Every page reload often takes 1 minute.

  • Hi. I was told that I can leave my order number here to double my bandwidth so here i came. Not sure if it still apply.

just debian 13. i think rescue is available too.. can't recall now, no menu option is available now, everything complains that it cannot be accessed while server is performing a task..
