emmm... how to say it?
I didn’t wish I can find any support at here, but I hope we can avoid buy its servics.

in a nutshell: they wanna use a vps with apt update needs 10 min+ to make unfair profit

detail:

I had hosting my services on justhost before 2022
but the recent changed makes it be an “crazy provider”

i got the steal time

top - 14:46:43 up 2:34, 2 users, load average: 2.93, 3.06, 3.17

Tasks: 100 total, 2 running, 98 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie

%Cpu(s): 55.6 us, 16.8 sy, 0.0 ni, 0.0 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 9.9 si,
17.8 st

MiB Mem : 957.5 total, 167.0 free, 200.5 used, 590.1 buff/cache

MiB Swap: 5120.0 total, 5120.0 free, 0.0 used. 607.9 avail Mem

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

10177 root 20 0 43728 24540 6976 R 90.0 2.5 0:15.89 apt install
sysstat

with their custom service:

You are not provided with full processor power, only virtualization. The allocated power may also depend on the overall load on the hypervisor, which is why I recommend that you choose a different location. This is a common situation.

Yours sincerely,
Your technical support

they must abuse the “vps”. If I cannot guarentee an cpu core, why dont I use shared hosting...

sorry for emotional comments.
but I rate it 0/5. for their customer service.

--edit--
also:
this case didn’t fixed in monthes.
17~ 30 steal time meant:
oversell && apt update needs 10 min+ && reboot needs 8 min+

OP says the VPS sucks, the host says it's shared resources. I say it's very oversold.

  • apt-get unattended-upgrades and then you won't worry about how long it takes.

  • I got 9-40% steal over months. I got less steal at morning till noon. Every night it's party steal

Why complain on English forum where nobody understands you?

  • @emgh what was your most recent apt-update record?

I'd say maybe around 2500 seconds, I tabbed out after awhile

    What's that in minutes

    hmmmm

It's like reminding a friend who doesn't know how bad it is.

    --edit--

    may confuse beginers

actually I mean waiting. it needs 8-10 minute to calcuate the package diff.

  • chargeback yesterday.

    @markp

Run YABS with GB6 and post the result here and on https://serververify.com/hosting-providers/justhost.

It will take at least an hour, but the result will be laughable.

    Yes, it's st in top.

The following explains the top cmd:

You mean you didn't get 100% of CPU for 1 dollar? For real?
Steal time 50% mean you got 50% of 1 core, when your vm requested let's say 1000ms of cpu time vm got only 500ms. Very simplified. Some clouds offer like "10% vCPU" mean's that your ST might reach 90%.

If you really looking for 100% of CPU usage stick to dedicated vCPUs, that's where no place to oversell (there is tbh, if some of customers not running hot their CPUs 24/7)

  • @frct1 said: Very simplified. Some clouds offer like "10% vCPU" mean's that your ST might reach 90%.

That's not true. 10% of a vCPU with 90% steal time would be utterly unusable. When a provider advertises a fraction of a vCPU, they are giving you the burst limit. Take SiteHub for example, who has the strictest limits I know of (25%). For brief periods, you can use 100% of that processor and CPU steal never gets above 1%.

CPU steal only occurs when resources are oversold or badly balanced.
