But yeah, could mount an image and it should work.

this is the part i am unfamiliar with..

Does the provider's faq or any other document provide details about the steps to mount iso drive?

nope.. one of those 6-article knowledge bases..

And upon contacting them, what do they have to say when requesting details about mounting a custom iso?

    waiting to get a reply..

It's been more than 3 days now right?

no i got reply last night saying "mount an iso as a quick workaround" which didn't tell me much, thus all my questions here, since i know many of you guys are linux pros..

Do they just expect you to study and understand their infrastructure and then figure out how to mount an iso on their hardware that you dont have full access to??? That's just odd and a useless response more than being vague which I previously mentioned. It's like shifting blame to the customer for the provider's lack of proper planning.

i guess it's assumed that anyone getting LET BF offer knows their way around Linux and ISOs and such..

But that still doesn't explain how you are supposed to mount an iso if the provider doesn't give you the tools to do that. This is interesting though. BTW, can you tell me what you get when you boot the VPS. Is there any lightweight distro or something already running there?

just debian 13. i think rescue is available too.. can't recall now, no menu option is available now, everything complains that it cannot be accessed while server is performing a task..

There is something called kexec that can boot into the kernel without a bootloader. Technically, i believe you could download any iso and extract it to a folder on the vps and then boot into it using kexec. Kexec is what is used on a PS4 to boot into Linux. And, now that I have talked about it it seems overkill to even try this on a vps.

i checked and it was @schrauger who mentioned Futurama.

I respect your determination to go back to search for this among various pages.

there's a search function on top, and luckily nobody talks about Futurama.. so it was 1st page. searches are actually the longest page, takes 20-30sec for me to actually get the search results.. probably posts are not indexed in db..

search here is painful, if 1st page doesn't do it, next page takes another 30sec.. it's weird and annoying. but it is there, so...

i wonder if there's a parameter you could add to the URL to increase post-per-page count to like 100 or more...

Oooh nice, have fun. I googled that, and liked this description of presumably Santa Claus:

Sinterklaas: A benevolent, bearded figure, traditionally arriving by steamboat from Spain.

Why Spain? Why a steamboat? Why even a boat?

[EDIT: and isn't Saint Nicholas supposed to come from Turkey anyway?]

But kruidnoten sounds yummy, so I'll forgive your traditions this one thing about the boats.

Kexec isn't about isos, it's about a kernel image (like you'd like in /boot). You use kload to load it into memory and kexec to replace the currently running kernel with it, so effectively killing everything that's currently running and rebooting to a new kernel.

You might have a kernel image that includes a ramdisk with enough stuff to boot other things (like an installer), or you might just pass command line arguments that tells the kernel what partitions to mount so it can boot from that.
