can i install windows on 1 GB KVM VPS – $10.60 per YEAR!?

RackNerd does allow using custom ISO. You could try to maybe run a light version of Windows like Windows10 Lite, but, even then, with GUI, you would find it very hard on 1GB RAM.

How can I install from custom ISO?

Start a support ticket on RackNerd dashboard with the link to the ISO. Ask for it to be added to your VPS. It should then show up on the Drive menu on your control panel. Start the VPS with the browser based VNC on the browser through your RN control panel. Boot from the ISO, install. Profit!

    @noob404 I got this reply.
Unfortunately we cannot mount any Windows ISO or allow a customer to license their own Windows installation, as this would violate our agreements with Microsoft SPLA.

Oh pardon me then. BTW, were you looking to run Windows for a specific reason?

I got it working finaly. But racknerd suspended it. It seems they don't allow windows running on cheap vps. Thanks for your help.

Windows is pretty heavy for these VPS, even if you stripped it down to IoT lite version unless there is a good reason you need windows, linux is better.

All my linux port except ping has been blocked by GFW or RackNerd. I am wondering to use windows rdp. But racknerd don't allow it running.

Why not run a linux desktop with the xRDP package?

Even I am trying to understand if there's a specific reason he's trying to install Windows like any specific packages or anything. Linux has alternatives for almost everything

I don't know linux too much.

That's why tools like ChatGPT exist. And maybe some people from this thread could help you too! :)

I have been using Linux for so long. I still have it installed on my laptop because of some software. I don't really like/want to setup Wine to run them, so I just dualboot.
I mainly still run Video Editing and DJ software on windows. Everything else on Linux!

  • I used to dual-boot windows, until my motherboard died and I had to replace it, and microsoft wouldn't re-validate my license. Now it's just debian.

I also just kept it for a few things, and mainly would boot it up once a month or so to apply updates. So far so good without it.

Yeah I also boot it like once a month. I often use it to practice some DJ and to apply some updates.

  • I had just updated from windows 10 to windows 11 recently, too, before my motherboard died. It seems that windows has been going downhill. Not that it was ever great, but I think it peaked with windows 7.

Yah. Windows 7 was the goat. The UI style jump from xp to 7 no doubt was significant, but, 7 was known for its performance as well. If MS kept providing updates for 7, I would never have used 10 as my primary OS for a long time, atleast until I eventually moved completely to Linux.
