morning ritual completed, now it's off to the races.. later-later..

Feeding the cats and I am guessing setting up the new Alienware monitor?

monitor been setup last night, amazing tool.. 180Hz but will have to play some games to really judge.

Oh. That's cool. So, currently, it's a dual monitor setup?
If that's the case do you have the option to add another monitor? If yes, how is it decided which GPU it will be plugged into?

last time you asked, i said it was 2 cards with 2 monitors each. i can add 4 more, as there are 4 empty inputs still, 2 remaining per card from the 4 each originally. i have 1070 and super 2060.

Yah, I distinctly remember you saying currently you had one monitor each plugged into each gpu. Hence, I got curious and thus wanted to know how it'd be decided which ports additional monitors would be plugged into.

nope. you even replied it. i mean, i don't blame you, it's hard to remember any replies from anyone when you fire off 400 comments a day.. just feels like you don't care about replies, doing it only for the numbers.. 🎅

    https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4603470/#Comment_4603470

Dude, read again. In that comment, I only asked you what your current setup was, smh
Only now I was thinking about the situation about what happens if you win the Alienware monitor, which we joked about recently. So, that brought me to the question about on which GPU you will plug another monitor into.
Are you able to now make/understand the distinction between the two questions? This was a followup to the original question, not a repetition of it.
As for the comment numbers, none of us are saints. We are all doing it for the numbers. You have insinuated this earlier as well that I don't read comments. But, I really do, if I don't, I specifically mention, for example, that long comment, which I said I didn't read cause it was long. But, you did give me a tldr version.
I understand where your disappointment is coming from, me doing 400 comments in a day. I understand your frustration given the gap in our comments, but, I did say the competition is gonna be brutal and I am highly competitive.

Let's just have some fun. And, if you don't want me asking questions, please just lmk, instead of pointing fingers. I will stop.

no worries. you asked about plugging them in, i said 2 cards, 2 monitors each. so then now you asked if it's a dual monitor setup - no, it's 4, which i said before..

and it is decided by checking how much viewable area is not on each card, how much memory each card has, and if they have reserves. although in today's day and age, it doesn't really matter anymore, since Windows now can extend video RAM with normal RAM.. it mattered before though.

Alright. Thank you for clarifying, and thanks for bearing with me. I have never had a multi-monitor setup in my life. So, I was just curious nothing else. It's gonna take me atleast a decade or more to actually invest in a multi-monitor setup, given everything going on IRL. It feels like the kid in me still lives. So, when I see people with stuff I might not never have, I get curious and ask too many questions. On this thread, it helps my comment count as well

But, yes, I was genuinely curious as to how you decide which GPU you plugged into, and if plugging into the 10 series card while there were ports available on the 20 series card would hurt performance.

BTW, you don't have to answer that. I was just explaining where my curiosity arose from. Anwyays, if I can ever get a multi-monitor setup, I will just have fun testing everything out and learn in the process.

of course weaker monitors go into weaker cards. currently 1070 server 1080p and 1440p, while 2060 does new 1440p and 2160p TV. technically i know when weaker RAM is in PC with stronger RAM, whole array works as the weaker part, but I'm not really sure about video cards. quick question to Gemini says there's no impact from slower on the faster. mainly cause 1 card server 1 whole monitor.. and i don't do like those crossfire or whatever it is for nvidia..

OK. Thanks for quenching my curiosity. I was initially planning o get a good monitor by the end of this year. But, a luck would have it, my primary monitor started getting those lines out of nowhere. I might just try to get it repaired if it doesn't cost me a new monitor. Once the thread's over I might just disassemble it and maybe try cleaning the cable and reinserting it. Some reddit posts do claim sometimes that fixes the issue.

i once took apart window air conditioner, it was VERY noisy.. after doing what i could and cleaning what could be cleaner, nothing changed... I was surprised though to see insides built mostly out of plastic foam.. although it is a good temperature barrier, like thermos..

Well, I haven't yet taken apart any heavy appliances. Infact, I kinda tempered and slowed myself down a few years ago when I disassembled my PS3 and after multiple attempts knocked down important jumpers in an attempt to replace thermal paste under the IHS. Haven't taken huge risks since then. Even if I do pry open this monitor, I will watch atleast 20 different videos before to make sure I can do it.

i have ruined many a CPU by messing with them in my time.. i did write a whole story here about my first years in USA and lack of money and collecting people's throw out PCs and assembling mine from best parts, it is then I did a lot of CPU destruction by mostly fcuking up the connector legs, and there are 100s of them, if a few go to the side, it is most likely the end, as i would ruin more by trying to straighten few.. i still have a few of such CPUs in my box with like 50 various SIMMs & DIMMs from those times..

haha.. love these jokes about programmers..

have you hear this one about physicists and mathematicians?

a physicist and a mathematician were given a tea pot, water faucet, matches and a gas burner, and asked to make tea.

physicist fills teapot with water from faucet, puts it on the burner, lights up the fire, water boils, he fills up a cup and adds some tea lives.

    mathematician does the same.

then the task was slightly changed, the teapot was already full of water, the rest is same.

physicist puts teapot on the burner, waits for the water to boil, and makes tea.

mathematician in turn _empties the teapot _and says "i have already solved this one earlier".

and crazy one - is not me...

  • winter is coming. so i been experimenting with hot drinks.
first i tried adding powdered creamer to tea - it tastes amazing!
now i tried adding a bit of honey to my coffee with creamer - it is not bad at all!

i do this as per my statement that i don't eat stuff with added sugar.. honey for the sweet treat it is - is fully natural and sugar there is not added. of course i will not be chugging it, but a tea spoon in the hot drink couple times a day - i approve that. plus locally sources honey is THE BEST source of vitamins, antihistamines and very very good carbs in general. well, i am sure everyone knows the benefits of honey..

here in USA students get lots of discounts, but that's where it ends, just pay less, and well things like museums, some software and such things - they get in for free with an active student ID.. cause it's for the academic benefit. my sister somehow still has possession of her student email (.edu), which is in many cases good enough to get student discounts.. sneaky.. makes 3x the money i make, been to 40 countries for work, and still doesn't mind saving a few bucks as the student.. she sometimes even more froogle than me. apparently the right way to say is "frugal" said i seeing word "froogle" underlined as erroneous.

Hi @inthecloudblog -- appreciate the suggestion and feedback! Latin America is one of those regions we get asked about from time to time, so it’s not off the table. Just need to make sure the infrastructure and upstreams line up the way we expect before we commit to anything.

This free travel thing is provided and regulated by the government, so if you don't pay, they will probably find some way of enforcing the pay back or something.
I'm not worried about having to pay it back as I'm 100% certain that I will finish this study

anyway now i actually gave her a list of displays that will match my new AW QHD. removed all 4k screens, as this QHD one is amazing.. better than 4k that broke down.

sure thing. i did like free transport back as a teen.. imagine they probably fired 1000s of conductors/ticket checkers that used to go in or just be in the bus/tram/trolley and check tickets.. i remember sometimes you were supposed to do it yourself - buy tickets as a booklet, stamp them inside the bus, etc.. sometimes controllers would jump in on some stop, and half the bus would leave on the next stop.. LOL..

@dustinc Can we really not clone an existing VPS to a new service? That's very disappointing after being a customer for over 5 years with 7 live services.

    (Ticket ID NP46576)

Hi @mark -- totally hear you on this, and just to be clear, it’s not something we don’t want to do - it’s simply something SolusVM does not have at this time. SolusVM just doesn’t provide a native “clone VPS to another service” function, otherwise we’d offer it all day long.

That said, cloning/mirroring your existing VPS is absolutely doable on the OS level with rsync. We actually have a full step-by-step guide published here that goes over the exact process: https://blog.racknerd.com/how-to-migrate-from-old-vps-to-new-vps-using-rsync-migrating-a-linux-vps/ (including a video tutorial on there as well, to get a visual/idea of the whole process). Very simple and straightforward and I've personally done this many times.

If you want, I can assign one of our sysadmins to handle this for you as well, we’d just need temporary root access to both the source and destination VPS so the rsync pass can be run cleanly, just let me know [email protected], and I’ll get it arranged.
