I actually think 14" is perfect for laptops. Want bigger, get a monitor(s)

I HAVE MSI 17" laptop, supah gut

glad you like it but I would personally hate lugging it around places

Me as well. Hate gaming laptops for hat exact reason.

i use it for normal things. but i love the heft. and the speed.

That's definitely an advantage if you are a power user, but, the weight.

So outside of GPU intensive things, my laptop is plenty powerful enough for everything I throw at it and if I need something more powerful, I can just remote into something at my home (VPN in and then remote)

but that's just me. I much rather have portability and battery life. That's actually one of the few reasons why I use my chromebook when I'm on call for work and I leave the house.

i don't blame you.. i barely bring my laptop for a walk. and when i go somewhere prolonged, i do bring the QHD 27" with me, cause no matter how big laptop screen is, it is still small for my taste

Don't get me wrong, a long time ago I love the larger laptops and would only buy them but I realized it wasn't fun lugging them around and they kind of sucked at being a laptop or what I thought a laptop should be. Then I started using 14" where it's much nicer to carry and get way better battery life, even with better screens and stuck with them since I think they're perfect for a laptop!

My main laptop is a Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 11 ( i7-1365U vPro with 32G ram) but I did buy a Thinkpad T14 (Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U with 32G ram) a month ago from a buddy as he wanted something better for gaming. Both I have a 4TB nvme in them, the T14 is split equally between Win11 and Linux but for the X1, windows has a 256G partition and the rest is linux. While the ryzen does have a more powerful cpu, the x1 has a better screen and battery life. I do much prefer the x1 over the t14 though before the i7 is powerful enough for on the go.

Note: I bought the T14 only because I wanted to compare the two and my mom needs a new machine. Since my mom wouldn't be getting it right away, I might as well compare the two and see which one I like less to give her  She and my dad exposed me to computers as a kid so the least I can do is supply them at their old age and be their tech support. Either of them is way better than her 10+ year old machine. Though I'm going to end up keeping the X1 for myself.

P.S. Yes, I'm addicted to the trackpoint/nub on thinkpads, it's why I like them though their quality has totally gone down over the years (still better than your average brand)

Obviously, I wouldn't say no to a beefy chunky gaming laptop specced to the top, but, I won't carry it anywhere, at which point I could just get a great PC for that price.

bought mine on BF a few years ago, for like $700.. can't beat MSI for that price..

I love MSI laptops as well, but, they have shitty service here in India.

This probably has to do a bit with us getting used to smaller powerful devices. I mean there was a time businessmen used to carry around their chonky Thinpads and IBMs just to do some basic (by today's standards) excel sheets. And, today, you can do that and more on a phone that's 10-20 times lighter.

that little red dot? in any case, i fullheartedly agree, although my main machine is desktop. and laptop seems too small to me, and on 14" keytboard is very tiny and unknown to me... but in general i started buying desktop keyboards with little flat buttons like a laptop is, after using my laptop for a while. i just like the full keyboard with F1-F12 as to be separated in groups, cause i need those spaces to feel/find the right buttons.. i still use Alt+F4 or CTRL+F4 and of course F5 (dam it reloaded the page with real F5.. ) and i use F8 in linux/MC a lot.. so for me it just makes sense to use desktop and i like it//
