i have 1 dedicated server (not with rn) (not counting hardware at home)
any day it's gonna be 2

dedicated servers are overrated IMHO.. i recently replaced one from Kimsufi (got it 2020) with a 4core VPS and - surprise-surprise - it performs better, has lesser load than the server used to. and the price is half what it was. and uplink is way better..

Depending on the use case, you can in no way utilize the VPS CPU 100% concurrently, while on dedicated, you are free to do that without any setback. Sure, with a VDS, you might be able to, but they are also not 100% guaranteed. Dedicated is the only option if your project is hammering the CPU constantly.

How often is there a surprise drop?

During BF? can't say, there are few here and there but there are also times chef cooks the meal depending on the demand.

more like gives into peer pressure..

Well, the chef says otherwise, "Anything is possible if there's enough demand".

that's what i am saying: demand = peer pressure.

hehe, you have a lot of catching up to do! I've personally never tried because I think it would take too much attention/time away from things afk or work. Like, I can multitask during work with the refreshes and comments but not enough to actually take first. I've accepted that though and I'm just here to party and hopefully snack on some tasty treats. Oh, and also drink coffee from a nice mug

Yep and depending on the company, they usually have a % of total CPU you can use concurrently instead of just bursts in which they will definitely take action if you're causing issues on that node.

i prefer dedicated due to ram
can run proxmox and my backups without issues, i recently started playing palworld and well, just made a vm with 30gb ram

i do not disagree. for that matter i have 3 dedicated servers with Hetzner. they do a lot of work, using nearly 2/3rds of the CPU power at times. That was just a special case where "didicatedness" was not actually necessary, just nginx+php..

I'm not a fan of those type of games but when I saw the new pokemon, I can see why nintendo is doing nintendo things to palworld :joy:

for that matter i really enjoy MUNIN, i has very wide array of monitoring features which in turn help convince your VPS provider that yes, someone on the node is using too much CPU resources, cause my STEAL is simply outrageous, and stuff like that.. not once have I had a provider move my VPS to a different node.

Amsterdam, Ashburn, Atlanta, Buffalo, Chicago, Dallas, San Jose, Seattle, & Toronto

I run some community servers for a niche game (overload, it's the spiritual successor to a 90s game called Descent) with some in the community helping with the cost. It doesn't use too much CPU and it's only in bursts when there's an active game being played so I haven't had any issues or caused issues for others.

I do have other servers too (with racknerd and others) but not for that game. I did manage to snipe a flash sale for a $14/year in LA that's almost this year's $18.66 specs

Oh, this location is very far from me. But, it is compensated by a beautiful IP🙂
