@sh97 today birthday? Damn son, happy birthday, party hard and let's ask bossman for some GAs on the way

thank you - one can hope.
would love a chef entry, but thats reserved for the main BF event, so I'll be happy with some GAs, especially resource ones!

RAM or CPU core, which one would you choose for your bday?

RAM, I am actually running out of it on my main Racknerd VPS.

  • If we get like a 3-4 GB ram vps, we could probably host a minecraft server! For the ones playing minecraft of course

Almost 40 pages, nice! How many pages did last year thread get?

NY is currently at 1046 and BF at 953. I had very driven competition from Ben on the NY thread and it shows

see.. and here i am trying for 3hrs already and i doubled my posts and it's still only 1/3rd of yours, who started way after i did yesterday... so reevaluation is definitely going to help stay sane at some point.. although i do live in Chicago, so if I won - i'd get stuff mailed to me, while being in India gets you only the nerd-money =) so you should just stop trying. =) 😋😋😋

LOL! How can I explain this? It's just animal instinct, the competitive feel and obviously the Ryzen Gaming PC that would have kept me going if this was just another normal year. But, it's not. So, you are safe. I am rooting for either you or Bas to get the gaming PC!
Some of us have won multiple times. It's time for you guys to step up to the first spot. But, as I said, this is not going to be easy.

Yep. Last year I won $25 in credits, I think, which was nice. I hope I can get a bigger prize this year!

I am rooting for you, dude. JUst keep going. At this point, I am sure, you have a good grasp over the game.

I'm curious, do any of you watch twitch regularly?

I go through spurts. Have you noticed how agrressive they've been with ads? I do use an extension but sometimes I will use mobile which I don't have a blocker on it

That's why you use DNS level ad blocker, simplifies the life.

I used to on my home network but it interfered with some things like news videos so I stopped. Though I really should setup a different WiFi SSID that will block ads, something like MyWiFi-Adblocker so it will be simple. I also used DNS66 on my android tablet which did a great job.

Presently, I have to do it per device, cause my router doesn't support OpenWrt. At the pace these ads are multiplying, I might have to soon get an OpenWrt compatible router.

Another option is to get a cheap rockpi or radxa sbc connect it to router setup adguard or technitium dns use the ip as dns resolver in router network settings.

Thought about that as well. Do have a Luckfox Pico at home, not being used. May require some hardware mod, but, Ig, i could put it to use as an ad blocker.

Certainly can I have seen guys using esp32 for a custom dns sinkhole.

That's a good option as well. Those cost like under 300.

Yup but using large blocklists are no go there.

I think Xiaomi AX3000T is a very cheap and capble option to run OpenWrt. I personally use Podkop for PBR to route specific sites through my vpn and block all ads

Not available here, would have really liked to own one, need to upgrade my r7000

Lately I have been thinking maybe an Orange pi R1 running OpenWrt could replace your router. You could then add your last router as an AP/switch. Or just buy an umanaged switch. This setup could be really cheap

Most sbc with multiple lan ports are costly here, the best option I could have gone with was getting r7000, now thinking of getting something enterprise class maybe mikrotik or something.

Orange pi is cheap in my country. You don't need multiple lan ports on the board itself, the orange pi R1 has 2 lan ports that you could configure one as your WAN and the other one as your lan and connect it to your previous router to work as your AP/switch, or just buy a very cheap unmanaged switch. Even if the sbc doesn't have 2 lan ports you can add a gigabit ethernet adapter to the usb port essentially the same setup.

The issue is I use multiple ISPs and need around 3 WAN ports and one LAN port going to the switch. Might just get a to link gateway.....

Hmm... you could use a managed switch and use Vlan taggin for your mutiple wan setup, but I guess if your buying three seprate devices then you'd be better off just combining all of them and uy a router for your needs lol😂

That's what I am thinking of doing, getting a multi wan gateway, a good enough router, an access point and a switch should be enough for my needs.

I went with an ubiquiti a long time ago, back when they were cheaper than they've been pushing out lately. Though, I'm still super happy with my setup! Though yeah, even an old PC with multiple nics, a switch, and an AP will make a great setup (what I originally started with when I got off typical home "consumer" products)

Lol that's some insane setup I can guess. Will look at nic cards if I can find some good ones.

It is but I can treat my network like a desktop PC and upgrade just parts as needed, when I can, or I find a great deal on the hardware. For a long time I used typically home consumer routers and I would always end up killing their transfer rates (both physical and wired) that it didn't make sense for me to keep going that route. Then I used an old PC for the router while reusing old router for an AP, started upgrading stuff until I started replacing it with ubiquiti products. If I wasn't able to replace things part by part and keep using my old stuff. Though the bad thing about doing it that way, you don't always realize how much money you've put into it

  • Also, my email is going insane with the amount of replies/mentions in here

At this point, I am sure, you have a good grasp over the game.

haha to me it seems you want others to keep going so that your final numbers don't be like 5 times the next spot... want a bit of a competition? =)

LOL! I just love keeping the hype up on these threads. I found RackNerd threads 2 years ago when I was going through a rough patch. So yes, sentiments are involved and I am grateful to Dustin and the RN team for these.

I'm gonna try to host a minecraft server on my 1 GB racknerd vps. Let's see how it goes!

Ben tried to host one on a 3GB VPS last year, I believe. And, he said, it performed well.

Minecraft needs at least 2 Gb ram nowadays, so a 3 GB vps should be fine

Oh yes, it should be. I am hoping Ben would join us any time soon. It'd be best to ask him for some pointers.
