Still looking for one KS-LE-B NVMe with standard specs (450gb NVMe) in RBX or SBG.
Otherwise I will have to do a Moonshot and add a different layer. Which might be a good idea to spread the cluster across providers.
But - at least for today - I will still try to get my hands on a standard spec -B NVMe in RBX or SBG (or ERI
).
You are an addict @OhJohn
If you do replace a three vps cluster that costs 20+20+35 with three KS-LE-B at 12+12+12, this addiction really makes sense
(if I don't find the third KS-LE-B in SBG or RBX, I would have to switch to LE-B+LE-B+KS-5 at 12+12+23 or get a Moonshot, which is idk maybe 25 or 30, so 12+12+30, still better than bad vps with 20+20+35).
More servers in december with a lower overall invoice.
(It's just a lot of migration work, so my Nov weekends will be blocked for that)
I'm still looking for a KS-LE-B with NVMe. LIM//FRA
Glad you found it funny
You know what would be even funnier? A KS-LE-B clone from Daddy Rock for @plumberg (as promised).
But you do build a second trio to monitor the cluster and a third trio to monitor the monitor don't you Johnny?
Normal people in your neighbourhood don't do that, do they Johnny?
that is @allthemtings poping up.
The monitoring was a joke actually
I had the plan to build a s3 cluster on old HDD (e.g. KS-LE-E or KS-Stor) but then in my quest to get KS-LE-B all those nice ones came up so I will use those for the S3 cluster instead of HDD ones.
If you look at the minio development and if you do get mails like I did recently where a service provider (not vps or bare metal but service) I'm using introduced a $1/GB egress fee (sic), you really look into building all your systems yourself on good oss stacks.
For sure, you could get a nice cluster with these 2TB NVME machines, only downside would be the limited 500/1g port
Yes, port is the limit, but importance for me is reliability and resilience so I will try that out.
Want 1245v5 or 1245v6
Still waiting for DR-LE-P
With our without fries?
Ok folks,
anybody listen up, you won't believe this (esp. @allthemtings and @fredo1664 ):
I do NOT need (more incoming) KS-LE-B anymore!
Mission accomplished!
Thank you thank you thank you @Ne0x you are my wonderful hero.
Now I have a lot of work to do migrating (and building up) systems.
Have fun all!
See you next year (or in ten minutes)
Maybe share when you are finished building, always interested in selfmade complicated setups
So you've got a LE-B to spare?
Great that you can switch to actually doing something with your toys
See you at BF, with all these trios perhaps you'll need a 26sklet01 to rule them all.
I actually missed out on BF last year because of KS-LE flash sale, will probably have the same happening this year.
And for the
I - by accident being lucky - also joined the KS-Mystery club yesterday and that one will do add the secret magic sauce I need (and that one will replace a stupid German server by a stupid provider where I'm more than glad to run away from).
Since OVH doesn't publish any official test IPs (AFAIK), I stumbled upon this handy overview that shows latencies between their POPs and DCs. This way, by picking a POP near you, you can get an idea of which DC has the best latency towards you:
https://smokeping.ovh.net/smokeping/#dc-pop-latency-matrix
great resource, thanks for sharing!
feels like (same as my personal tests) that if you are central europe there is barely any difference between gra/sbg/fra/waw
GRA is really good for UK/IE (if you don't get ERI).
RBX good for France and Benelux (actually RBX and GRA are)
SBG is the choice if you need the MRS sea cable connections to e.g. ASIA or MENA
(GRA and RBX to MRS is sometimes routed via LIM or FRA further through SBG to MRS so SBG is much better)
SBG is also good for Italy, France and Alp countries (CH|AT) and Germany..
WAW is mediocre but usable because of RETN for Poland, Baltics, Russia, Ukraine, Finland. (Esp. with DDoS protection you might need).
LIM is good for Germany and Scandinavia and Benelux as well (but for the last one not as good as GRA or RBX).
Is BHS good for somewhere?
BHS: Canada and US East coast. Sometimes BHS is even better than VIN for East coast.
And BHS is a good hop for North America<->Europe transfers, esp. via ERI (but also GRA).
If you think about their global DCs:
Mumbai is the worst in the OVH world.
Even for India I would rather recommend SGP. (or a competitor from India)
VIN and HIL are both still below expectations in regard to network in US but you do not have much choice (esp. if you compare their prices against US competitors where you easily pay double the price per month).
SYD is ok for Australia/NZ, SGP is ok for Southern Asia but the SGP<->EU connection could be improved. It's still better than Mumbai though.
@fan AND: BHS is Canadian jurisdiction, so that is a big plus against VIN as well. Esp. if you operate out of Europe.
This seems to be very rare.

Still looking for any base spec KS-LE-B in france/uk (or lotto at reasonable price)
Make this into a post with more data please
