I've just remembered that they've been doing planned maintenance, FWIW

  • Network Maintenance - Dark Fiber connection to Amsterdam
Our Data Center Provider Skylink announced maintenance for the Dark Fiber connection to Amsterdam from 08.05.2025 23:30 CEST to 08.05.2025 6:00 AM CEST, we will reroute traffic via Skylink. Packet loss might appear due to congestion in Skylinks Network. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the dark fiber maintenance conducted by our Datacenter provider, Skylink, in the Netherlands.

Typically, all clients are notified via E-Mail a few days prior to maintenance. Unfortunately, due to issues with our notification system, many clients were not informed this time.

Our network in the Netherlands includes a transport connection to Nikhef, which was the focus of this maintenance, and a connection to Skylink in the Datacenter itself. This connection also utilizes the link to Nikhef and one to Frankfurt. During this maintenance, as all Skylink clients rerouted their traffic to Skylink, there was packet loss in the past and again this night. For some clients, the connection was completely down due to this packet loss.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and would like to inform you that we have signed Rack Space with Databarn in Amsterdam to restore the standards we were able to provide a few months ago.

    Happy to have everyone onboard!

Please open a ticket if you still have issues.

That's just great as we have IPv6-only server complete with IPv6-only BGP session.

However, we aren't experiencing any victimisation in Eygelshoven location.
On the other hand, our prefix in Liberty Lake has disappeared.

So I was right that it was f*cked up. And maybe it was fixed in 10 minutes (well IPv4 had even shorter 3 minutes downtime), the experienced downtime was way more for most external locations: down at 15:36, up at 16:07 and down again at 16:13, up at 16:24. All in all not 10 minutes. And even now, 3,5 hours later, there is one location that still can't connect by IPv6.

    Not skylink.

You are basically supplying most of the network connections to customers in that DC, so it's quite similar to most of the endusers.

But my reaction was mainly on the comment that the provider that started this thread is looking elsewhere and that I can totally understand that. It's always something in Eygelshoven.

    Basically when:

    • A short downtime is announced it will last days
    • No expected downtime is announced you will have downtime
    • Some maintenance with maybe a few dropped packets is announced you will definitely notice it because things will go down
    • No maintenance is announced issues can happen any moment

@heartbeat_IT Guys, my service has been down since this morning, and no one answers. Do you know what's going on? When will the services be backed up?

We just sent the following E-Mail to our active clients:

[Netherlands] Emergency Data Center migration from Skylink to Databarn - 29.07.2025 08:00 CEST

    Hi!

Due to ongoing network issues with our infrastructure in our Netherlands location we are conducting an emergency data center migration from Skylink in Eygelshoven to Databarn in Amsterdam on 29.07.2025 08:00 CEST

We are aware that the Emergency Data Center Migration happens on short notice, but we have to weigh up the ongoing network issues and the impact of a short-notice migration.

The last few weeks we prepared the infrastructure in our new Netherlands location in Amsterdam. For more details regarding the data center, check out https://www.databarn.nl

Please ensure you have up to date backups at hand before the shutdown of the servers for the migration.

More details regarding the Emergency Data Center Migration:

On 29.07.2025 at 08:00 CEST we will start shutting down servers and packaging them.

At around 11:00 CEST we expect to start the journey towards Amsterdam and expect to arrive at 15:00 CEST.

We start installing the servers after our arrival and expect to be done at around 22:00 CEST.

Your service will be started by us automatically after the migration.

Updates will be available at https://status.heartbeat-it.com

The client area will be under maintenance during the migration. You will receive 7 days towards your due date as compensation.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We strive to get back to better standards and back to the service quality we were able to offer in the past.

If you have questions regarding the migration, please feel free to contact us via support ticket.

My incognet, heartbeat and Deluxhost are also down.
