Ahh lovely Friday night. I assume your storage need is fixed now? What other deals are you hoping for?

To be honest, I think I've got everything I need. I'm not fast enough for the flash deals.

I've already got two VPSes with GreenCloud that I'm not using at the moment:

    • Premium KVM: 16GB RAM, 120GB NVMe, $180 / 3 years
    • 10th birthday: 10GB RAM, 100GB NVMe, $100 / 3 years

I think I'll get rid of the first one when it expires, since I replaced it with a larger one during Black Friday, that doesn't cost much more (16GB RAM, 300GB NVMe, $200 / 3 years)

3 of my 4 VPSes in San Jose are on the same node (SJC-EPYCMILAN2) since they were all migrated to Virtfusion at the same time

@NDTN I signed up for a storage VPS yesterday (in Illinois) based on the recommendations here and spent hours configuring it and uploading about 1 TB. This morning it was offline, and the control panel showed “……” as the status and neither boot nor restart worked.

I opened a ticket and support told me the Illinois node was having issues and asked if they could move me to Arizona instead. I said I’d be OK with Arizona if they added 1 TB of storage (to the 2TB I'd already prepaid for a year) to make up for the wasted time/bandwidth/hassle. I thought that was acceptable, especially considering that you would've doubled the 2TB drive to 4TB if I'd prepaid for 3 years instead of 1 year. (I paid for one year specifically to test reliability first.)

Support checked then said they couldn't do that, so I wrote mentioning the double SATA promo and asked to please either find a way to upgrade the drive for another TB (and then, yes, moving it to Arizona would be acceptable) or cancel and refund the purchase.

Then a couple messages back and forth about if there was important data, they set up the Arizona VPS... but when I mounted the sata drive, there was no size change. It was still 2TB, so I was disappointed all over again.

Support ultimately cancelled and refunded when I wrote back to ask what was going on, saying sorry for the staff's mistake, but I'm amazed that one hand is giving away "thousands" of things in this thread but the other hand can't do what's right for a customer who paid $80.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Our system was configured with 4× M.2 PCIe adapters in a software RAID-10 setup for OS boot on the VMs. Unfortunately, two of the M.2 drives suddenly became unresponsive, requiring our onsite technician to reconfigure the setup using 2× M.2 PCIe adapters and initiate a RAID rebuild.
At the time, your request to add an additional 1TB of storage was declined because it required approval from higher management, which was not available.
You're welcome to place the order for the Storage-2 plan again - I’ll make sure the additional 1TB is included and properly arranged.

The latency to JP Softbank increased Friday night from 55ms to 75ms, continuing even now Saturday morning. I hope it will go back to normal. No packet loss, though.

Interestingly, the latency to JP IIJ is still 55ms.

Most of them are on the same node so I'm not sure how useful a cluster would be for something like high availability... They'd all go down if that node goes down

I wish Virtfusion would let me combine all the ones on the same node into a single very large VPS though! Maybe that functionality will come with OpenStack 🤞

I think the problem in general is it will be very hard to keep track when the system contains a lot of custom specs, but ya I am really looking forward to the OpenStack as well.

Maybe migrating to different nodes in the same DC could work if you send in a ticket? Or maybe @NDTN can confirm about this as well

Fair point. That's exactly the same worry as me because ultimately manpower costs are usually the highest. But who knows if it spread into different nodes you would keep it so it is a win-win?

We can distribute the VMs across multiple nodes if available. Just submit a support ticket to get started.

For redundancy, I usually pick up different cpu like Rome, Milan in the same location.

I requested them to spread the vms across nodes with fees if available. They said it took into the consideration.
