But PH24 is premium. Never had a down time.

And we also carried out some big improvements to the storage cluster, resulting in much better tail latencies and improved small random 4k reads/writes.
That’s especially interesting for people running big databases or busy k8s setups like etcd.

But you’re right, prices have increased quite a bit for a reason:
We’ll soon add dedicated Ceph nodes to separate storage and compute for even more performance, followed by our first Turin hosts in around 6–8 months.

Thanks for the nice feedback :)

None of the nodes contain your VPS data.
The data is provided by a storage area network (CEPH), so the failure of a node has no major impact and we can migrate VPS between machines within seconds.

None of our prices are based on wage growth calculations

There is a good explanation just a few messages above your question actually:

But you’re right, prices have increased quite a bit for a reason: We’ll soon add dedicated Ceph nodes to separate storage and compute for even more performance, followed by our first Turin hosts in around 6–8 months.

That old offer existed partly thanks to me grinding extra work for some big clients to cover a 50k € investment before VAT.
Happy to keep the old prices though, as soon as you volunteer to fund the next nodes :P

I could name a lot of things, in the end that doesn't really matter. It's a business after all and if people pay the price then that is all that matters.

Maybe the previous offers were introduction offers but not quite sustainable?

With that said, this is still some of the best value on the market. If you see a price you like then buy it, can't really expect a business to out-compete it's own offerings all the time, that just leads to deadpooling.

    Are you Prepaid Host reseller?

We operate our own infrastructure and manage everything independently. However, we have a joint venture with CSNJ BGB (Christopher Sakel & Nicolas Janzen Civil Law Partnership) to share rack space, uplinks, and to pool hardware purchases. This gives us a stronger negotiating position with vendors.

That’s why, for example, we operate the same Ceph cluster, or why we (ph24) offer Genoa VMs while Prepaid-Host doesn’t.

but seriously, what justifies a 60% price increase for exactly the same specifications?

I could name a lot of things, in the end that doesn't really matter. It's a business after all and if people pay the price then that is all that matters.

Maybe the previous offers were introduction offers but not quite sustainable?

With that said, this is still some of the best value on the market. If you see a price you like then buy it, can't really expect a business to out-compete it's own offerings all the time, that just leads to deadpooling.

...nobody expects that. but how does it work for you? i don't think i've ever seen any of your offers that have increased in price by 60% within such a short time despite having the same specifications.

Maybe the previous offers were introduction offers but not quite sustainable?

With that said, this is still some of the best value on the market. If you see a price you like then buy it, can't really expect a business to out-compete it's own offerings all the time, that just leads to deadpooling.

  • @hyperblast said: what justifies a...

What justification do they need? Did they increase pricing for clients with old special deals? No? So what's the deal then?

The old deal was way, way below market price, and plenty of us took advantage of that. This deal is more realistic, but still good value for the quality they offer.
Once you start, you don't know when to quit. There's no need to thrash their sales thread just because the current deal is more realistic than the old ones.

The old deal was way, way below market price, and plenty of us took advantage of that. This deal is more realistic, but still good value for the quality they offer.
Once you start, you don't know when to quit. There's no need to thrash their sales thread just because the current deal is more realistic than the old ones.

On a forum like this, if you raise the price, you'll attract very little. 90% of the people here want a server for $7 a year.

What justification do they need? Did they increase pricing for clients with old special deals? No? So what's the deal then?

Thanks a lot for backing me up, very appreciated. <3 : ) But i figured pretty quickly he wasn’t all that serious about what he wrote, so I didn’t want to ask or answer this way.
