  • firstly it’s just some providers’ market policy, then it becomes a meme

Personally, I have no problem paying more than $7.

If that's a 2c4g 3TB storage VPS in Romania, I'm willing to splurge even $15/year...

Show me evidence, where 7$/y deals, caused a provider, directly, not indirectly to deadpool.
Until not proven, I call bullshit.

  • any $7/y dealz to celebrate?

I can see your viewpoint for sure, however if the provider is responsible and knows the numbers it can be a cool and fun thing. But lots of variables involved for sure.

So is now the moment of truth?

    the moment is building.....

If they sell a limited quantity on special occasions, it is understandable. Otherwise, just avoid it and save that $7.

    awesome viewpoint.

$7/year deals are marketing/branding and a cheap way to get signups to your newsletter.

The newbies that aren’t able to sell more and sustainable services to the customers they get through this kind of marketing end up deadpooling.

They would have deadpooled anyway, because of the same problem: they do not know how to sell or scare their customers away with bad service.

  • u r right but we need more 7$

  • jndjnd Member

Cheap offer doesn't mean deadpooling, although the chance is higher. Virmach offered $5/y a $6/y last BF, it's still running. Deluxhost regularly offers $7/y for months, they still work. Notorious Massive Grid is online too (if you're in Frankfurt, that is). There was HT-hosting with $5/month (but insane specs for that) and they went under.

The fun part is figuring out which provider can keep it running and which one grossly miscalculated or just straight out pulled a scam.

    Where are they now? lol

  • Some have cheap deals, then you hear months nothing after. You forget you spend money.

I notice there is a link between the downfall of providers and $7/yr deals and that is
whenever a provider starts to be generous and sell out massive $7/yr deals,
few months later, it starts going down hill (the worst being out of business)

as the saying goes, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is"
    what do you guys think?

    Ok, $3/yr plz.

so how about we take this in your sig

    Linux VPS 4GB RAM, 60GB NVMe, Unmetered - $38.88/yr

and we do some math on it to make it

Linux VPS 1GB RAM, 20GB NVMe, Fair Use Unmetered- $7/yr

  • This must be reverse psychology attempt hack on 7$year deals.

    Don't fall for it providers!

  • I agree with @wadhah, and the math makes sense too. If it works for the provider, great! There is definitely an audience for that.

I buy <$15/yr units to evaluate providers I never used before. If you sell me shit service because "only $7" there's no fucking way you get more money from me, get real.

Sure but IPv6 only, because IPv4 is the majority of the cost.

  • I do not agree.
7$ is a lot of money in some countries.
Server are more powerfull than ever, bandwidth is cheap and speeds increased.
Yet we see stupid high prices on junk vps specs share with 1 mil. other clients.

Provider goes downhill because their planning failure, not because someone asked for $7/yr or something unsustainable
