Hi,
If possible I would like to apply for a server in London from OnlyServers
They would be great.
Still possible to apply for ?
@Not_Oles
@d2411
Thanks for your request.
We had NAT VPSes running very well on the OnlyServers machine. Check the Yabs posted earlier in this thread.
When we tried to install macvtap VPSes, we received opportunities to work on a few BashVM issues also detailed earlier in this thread.
When we get the BashVM macvtap VPSes working on the OnlyServers server, then we will distribute free VPSes on that server.
As far as I know, the macvtap issues are not in any way a problem with OnlyServers. A few adjustments to BashVM are needed, and also, hopefully, the addition of serial console to BashVM's "manual" VPSes.
Might take a few days, or even longer, due to limited time to address these issues.
Thanks again for your request!
Thanks for your patience!
Thanks to @dan_onlyservers for the kind donation!
Another update on the Alexhost server.
Alexhost says it replaced the ailing disks.
Apparently there originally were eight disks. But one disk was so gone that the server could not detect its presence. That's why I thought the server only had seven disks.
Two other disks showed SMART warnings.
Alexhost told me that they had done / replaced something, I'm unclear on exactly what, and that the server should come online.
I couldn't ping the server, so I added to the ticket.
Current status is that Alexhost wanted to wipe and reinstall with current Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. I told them okay to go ahead.
I appreciate Alexhost's efforts to resolve issues with their kindly donated server. Thank you Alexhost!
Best wishes!
Here is some definite progress. I just logged into the first Alexhost VPS made by hand with cloud-init and virt-install.
Now for some more testing! And then make more VPSes! Then give VPSes away!
Thanks Alexhost!
You could enable Ubuntu pro...
Would Ubuntu pro still be in line with "Free and open source software only."?
Did you open the link ? It says:
Sadly, that doesn't answer my question - I have no idea what "subscription for open-source software" means or implies. https://ubuntu.com/legal/ubuntu-pro-service-terms might be more relevant.
@cmeerw , I'm not a lawyer
sounds like you guys might need a legal representative
Here's a Yabs from the initial testvm1 on FOSSVPS' Alexhost server!
Thanks to Alexhost for their kind donation!
Probably I will make some more of these, maybe 4 cores, 4 GB RAM, and 100 GB disk? Then give them away.
This test VPS was made by hand with cloud-init and virt-install.
I want to check on the disk caching. My guess is that this server has a pretty conservative disk cache setup. With conservative caching, plus RAID 10, the server ought to be pretty reliable if there is a power outage or another disk problem.
Here is NWS from the test VM on the Alexhost node. Thanks Alexhost!
can I get one?
I have some small docker projects
Are they open source?
yes
@sdo888
Maybe you missed a great opportunity to share links to the source code?
Maybe a few additional details about what you are doing and why?
I'd love to hear more! Thanks! Best wishes!
Thanks for checking! Much appreciated!
Hi @ricky!
Thanks for your request!
What software do you want to test?
What tests do you want to run?
Can you use NAT IPv4?
How can we see you as a community contributor?
Best!
Tom
Hi,
I currently want to test software like Uptime Kuma, zstd, MinIO, Gitea, Photoview, Paperless-ngx, Neko, Caddy, Lychee and CodeServer. This is the current list, to which I'll probably add later.
I can work with NAT, though dedicated IPv4 would be much better.
After testing, I'd publish a detailed post (or posts) with install steps, screenshots, some personal review, benchmarks etc. to help anyone who wants to learn or use this software.
Best regards
Hi @rickey!
I'm considering your request. Thanks for the additional information!
Best wishes!
Tom
Hello,
I just opened a new FOSSVPS thread at
https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/208497/new-free-vps-location-alexhost-chisinau-moldova-via-fossvps/p1
May we please continue this thread's fun discussions in the new thread?
May we please close this thread as well as all the other, earlier FOSSVPS threads?
Thank you!
Tom
Alright, please keep me updated on your decision. Thanks!
Is it a boy or a girl?
Congrats,
