What is the current ETA for restore slab VMs?

Nothing concrete yet. There was a misunderstanding on which nodes we needed in CH and so they have to do another trip.

If you don’t need your OS drive (or you have a backup or snapshot in stallion) we can remake your vm and you can probably attach the slab.

There is a few slab nodes needing some fixes (basically all cabling related) so we hope to get that fixed in the next few hours.

    Francisco

How to get a new VM? I have the backup snapshot in Stallion.

Open a ticket and we will point you over to a different node and you can restore.

For the majority of users. There’s some nodes in transit but the very vast majority of users are good.

Geoip will take ages to update everywhere.

Btw, some feedback. Would be actually nice to get an email that the migration is done.

I agree, I wish we had the full week I asked for but we didn't. We sent email notice within an hour of getting the notice ourselves.

Do you have backups inside of Stallion? A snapshot?

I had to move all my site and slab data to a different host as this is some significant downtime and not sure if it's worth the ballache moving it all back when it comes back up. that coupled with the 100ms+ latency on my non slab vm it's been quite painful.

Might move some sites over to namecrane in UK any offers on at the moment?

Can you PM me a trace/mtr showing the latency?

We don't have any specials at the moment, just whatevers on namecrane.com.

    Same.
We received no notification whatsoever about the migration.

The first sign of trouble was BGP.Tools alert on July 26 that our data feed was sending fewer than 100000 routes.
We only knew about migration after we found the routed subnet not working and opened the ticket.

I've been given an mx204 now so I'll hopefully have that cutting over very soon, then we can restore BGP. I don't have the time/effort to try to port the config to cisco.

    Understood.
When we looked at Wireshark, we were puzzled to see a MAC address marked "Cisco" while it used to be Juniper.

Next time learn from ServerFactory and drag the entire rack including servers and routers in a truck, but remember to close the rear doors.

    Anybody has received any updates.

We've got a post up on billing but we have an active thread on discord for it too.

All non slabbers should be up. Slab users are pending their hypervisors being turned on which is HOPEFULLY tomorrow.

My hands are tied on all of this so i'm just trying to work with what i got access to.

Except that if you're in a node that got misplaced as a slab node and is still in transit, you get no notification whatsoever and have to go around asking in tickets.

Close to 4 days downtime here...

Not only that but I'm totally missing an email notifying about migration from LU to CH even, I found out thanks to Discord :joy:

That's fair, and you're right, a small handful of users didn't migrate off properly so they got 'stuck' on there.

If you have a snapshot or backup in stallion and are OK restoring to that, we can remake your service. If you don't then we'll have things sorted ASAP and i'll pull.

ServerFactory is driving their truck from SkyLink to DataBarn today.

The unlocked rear door refers to a scene in Silicon Valley where a large computer was lost in transit as components fell off the back of a truck.

The only notification I ever received about it was the heads-up that came in 24 hours before the downtime.
It's more than what I got with the LUX outage, which I had to look up on LET myself to find out why my VPS was down, but still really not sufficient as it gave me no time to prepare.

Not sure what they're planning on for compensation, but I'm actively looking around for other VPS hosters now :(

  • Let's face it, this is a very poorly prepared move.
The downtime has already been 4 days.

  • Downtime over 5 days is quite painful :(

I agree, not the timeline I expected for these slab nodes. They're actively racking things in NL so I can do a pull.

A few weeks free at least, but maybe we just round it up to a month.
