FijiHost / MetWeb – Same People, Same Scam – Throttling, Lies, Broken OS, Discrimination

choppychoppy Member
edited July 2025 in General

TL;DR

Bought “unmetered 10Gbps” VPS from MetWeb, then told no hardware, pushed to FijiHost.

Paid via PayPal to personal account.

Service worked briefly → got throttled multiple times → lied about traffic limits → mirror reinstall broken → support ghosted.

They hide behind a “no refund after 7 days / 50%+ discount” clause to run the scam long enough.

They even said “Only you and another Chinese client have issues.”

I’m from Hong Kong, and yes, that sounds like discrimination.

🧵 Full Story
Saw this LET promo from MetWeb:
🔗 MetWeb Promo – 10Gbps Ryzen VPS with 72% off

Offer:

💲 $50.39/year

✅ 2 vCPU / 4GB DDR5 / 80GB NVMe

✅ 10Gbps Port

✅ “Unmetered Bandwidth”

They explicitly replied in-thread:

“We don’t limit traffic — even PB-level is okay.”

I paid. Then came the excuse:

“We have no hardware available right now.”

They suggested I buy from FijiHost, which “is the same backend and team.”
Fine. I went there. But FijiHost only accepted crypto.

I contacted support and they offered an unofficial PayPal payment to a personal address. (Yeah, sketchy.) I paid again.

🚩 The Issues Start
❌ Throttling & Fake Limits
A few days in, my speeds dropped. Support asked about my usage (no usage policy was shown before purchase). I explained — they replied some activities like file sharing and P2P are not allowed.

Later, a 20TB cap was silently applied. I caught it — they said:

“It’s a bug in our system update.”

It was lifted… only to throttle again days later.

📷 iperf3 test results (throttled speeds)
📷 Speedtest.net results

🧱 Broken OS Reinstall
Another huge issue: when reinstalling from their panel, most OS templates produce incorrect SSH login credentials.

Passwords don’t match

Can’t log in via SSH

Reinstalling becomes pointless

A properly functioning host shouldn’t ship broken templates. This is basic.

⛔ No Refund = Pre-Planned Trap
They clearly use their refund policy as a scam tool:

❗ No refund after 7 days

❗ No refund with >50% discount
So they delay, stall, and “throttle” you until that window closes — then you're trapped.

They abused that exact loophole in my case:

System breaks

Speed throttles

Features restricted

Refund denied

👎 Discriminatory Response
After multiple tickets and no real action, support wrote:

“Only yours and another Chinese client have problems.”

📷 Ticket Screenshot – Discriminatory Reply

I'm from Hong Kong — and this tone is not okay. If you're going to treat users differently based on geography, just say so. Don’t bait us into your offers and punish us for using what we paid for.

💬 Let’s Talk, LET
I’m posting this as both a warning and a request for others to speak up.

If you’ve had issues with MetWeb or FijiHost, please reply or message me.
This smells like an operation designed to harvest quick money via deep discounts, delay customers out of refund eligibility, then vanish behind vague excuses and broken systems.

📌 Action Plan
Filing a PayPal dispute

Reporting these brands to LET moderators

Publishing this post on other forums (e.g. HostBalls, Reddit r/VPS, possibly WHT)

Collecting other victim reports

If LET cares about its users, MetWeb / FijiHost should no longer be allowed to run promos here.

It's difficult to conceive of a vendor providing truly unlimited bandwidth, completely unconstrained by a Fair Use Policy, for a VPS. Such a claim often feels like a misinterpretation or taking their words out of context.

Could you please provide the hyperlink 🔗 and any visual evidence 📷 that supports this assertion?

False marketing really causes these problems, especially if the price is too low

The prices offered for unlimited are the same as accepting only cryptocurrency, or the 8GB plans for $1 are not profitable.

How can I check what format I sent it in?

Personal payment (send money to friends and family):
When you use this feature, you are sending money to an individual, not to buy goods or services. Paypal sees this as a private transaction and does not provide money protection as when you buy.
    Payment payment (goods and services):
If you buy online and use the "goods and service" payment feature, you may complain if the problem is like that is not received, the goods are defective or unlike the description.

How to Check the Format of a PayPal Payment You Sent
To check whether a PayPal transaction you sent was classified as Friends & Family (F&F) or Goods & Services (G&S), you'll need to access your transaction history on PayPal.

Here's how you can do it:

Log in to your PayPal account: Go to the PayPal website (paypal.com) and log in with your credentials.

Go to "Activity" or "History": On your PayPal dashboard, look for a tab or section usually labeled "Activity" or "History." This is where all your past transactions are listed.

Find the specific transaction: Scroll through your transaction list or use the search/filter options to locate the payment in question.

Click on the transaction details: Click on the specific transaction to view its details.

    Look for the transaction type:

For Goods & Services (G&S) payments: You will typically see "Purchase," "Order Details," or "Seller Protection" mentioned. There might also be a small fee deducted from the recipient's end, and a record of the item purchased or service rendered.

For Friends & Family (F&F) payments: The description will usually state "Personal Payment," "Sent money to friends and family," or something similar. No fees are charged to the recipient for these types of payments (unless currency conversion is involved).

By following these steps, you can easily verify the format of your PayPal payment.> @choppy said:

Also this practice of "no hardware, order from sister company, crypto-only, oh we have personal paypal" most likely should be investigated by LET staff. Can you guys screenshot all the conversations, payments, proofs and open a ticket in helpdesk I guess https://services.lowendtalk.com/submitticket.php

They haven't been on the site for a month. Also, they still haven't provided me with the server I ordered through FijiHost back then.

Here is their promise to honor orders through fijihost btw: https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4451353/#Comment_4451353
