WHY CANT I INSTALL WINDOWS SERVER 2025 OR WINDOWS 11 ON AN OVH DEDICATED SERVER
ive been troubleshooting this for the past few hours. I CANT FIGURE IT OUT.
The server WILL install: Windows 10/pro/enterprise, windows server 2019, 2022 (i think)
But it will NOT install: Windows 11/pro/enterprise, windows server 2025
I WANT TO INSTALL WINDOWS SERVER 2025
This is on the i7-4790k dedicated server.
I had one before with 16gb of ram, and that one worked perfectly fine, and had no problems with windows 11 or windows server 2025 installing.
But when I switched to an upgraded version of that KS-GAME with 32gb of ram instead, it simply REFUSES to install anything over windows 10.
ITS THE SAME FRIGGEN MACHINE BUT WITH AN EXTRA 16GB OF RAM
IVE TRIED
Using countless reinstallation scripts, setting TPM in bios to enabled, changing CSM from legacy to UEFI (but then it didnt let me install Ubunbu from the OVH panel), and ive tried manually reinstalling it using
which it then showed me this error

IM ABOUT TO GO CRAZY. NOTHING I DO WORKS
if someone could help me, that would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Sometimes its just the box.
I have had a user post a thread for the same game series and installation was a challenge with all versions not 2025.
You could try 2022 version if that's possible.
so its unfixable?
i know its possible to request a disk replacement or something. would it maybe be possible to request to be switched to a different box or something with ovh? if thats even a thing?
Well this is interesting ngl WHAT COULD IT BE
A motherboard replacement can be requested. Unless you show a real issue (unlike os installation) it may not happen.
Unfortunately switching to another range may help.
Has the server got a tpm 2.0 chip and is it a valid cpu for windows 11?
Wondered same, but shouldn't it clearly print the reason of the error then?
well i installed windows 11 on a different ks-game ovh dedicated server with the exact same specs (it had 16gb less ram though)
so the cpu should be valid
Was it recently ?
It looks like Microsoft is closing loophole after loophole. For example https://windowsforum.com/threads/microsoft-removes-tpm-2-0-bypass-what-this-means-for-windows-users.351372/.
Yes. Also, windows server 2025 doesn’t require tpm? i dont think tpm is the issue.
Yeah sorry not useful.
If you could change the bios, does it have IPMI? You could try installing 2022 and doing an in-place upgrade to 2025?
Hmm, ive tried doing an in place upgrade using windows 10 to windows 11, and it wouldnt boot.
I’ll try windows server though. Thanks for the suggestion
The processor isn't supported by Windows 11 or server 2025. It should work on Server 2022.
If that CPU is working on Windows 11 somewhere, it has a bypass hack as well as patched chipset drivers. Not worth the effort for ancient CPU.
well, unless that exact same ks-game-le dedi i had before had patched chipset drivers, or a bypass hack (it didn’t), i don’t see why that worked with installing windows 11 but the same ks-game dedi model with an extra 16gb of ram doesn’t.
others have said that maybe its just because of the box
Maybe they added 16gb limit?
Nah, you're mistaken. The rest of us have been well aware of CPU compatibility with Windows 11 for years. You can check the CPU support lists yourself.
I checked the CPU support list, and yes, its not officially supported by Windows 11.
But my point is, i’ve never had a problem with installing Windows 11/Windows server 2025 on CPU’s that aren’t officially supported.
For example, i’ve had a dedicated server with a Xeon E5-1650v3, and it installed Windows 11 flawlessly despite not supporting it officially.
I’ve also had the exact same machine as the one im trying to install W11 on (i7-4790k) in the past from OVH, and it installed Windows 11 flawlessly.
I can’t wrap my head around what’s preventing this KS-GAME-LE box from installing windows 11 when my other one I had a few months ago installed it just fine.
Maybe its just the box and im cooked as others have said. Im trying an in place upgrade to windows server 2025 now. (w10 to w11 in place failed)
Well, windows server 2022 also failed to install. Awesome
Windows 11 bloody requirements on processor … we had to throw the expensive laptop into a dumpster.
Not sure if it would work, but rufus allows you to make an ISO that can bypass cpu and other restrictions to install. I'm not sure if it would work as an uploaded ISO, but it would be worth trying.
You are trying to install a Server version on a consumer CPU. Sooner or later, everyone finds out the drivers and support aren't the same.
dude, windows server has worked on literally every processor ive used it on consumer or not. from shitty xeons, i3’s, etc to my i9 at home, they’ve all worked.
In-place upgrade from 2019 then? I didn't double check but i think it's supported.
thanks, i’ll try that too (low hopes though). im testing my luck though first with an ovh support ticket to see if they would replace the mobo.
You need to disable TPM 2.0 check, you an do it in the registry while you install windows, to be honest Windows Server 2025 is shit it's slow as hell and not everything works, I advice you to use 2022..
Here is a guide: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/bypass-windows-11-tpm-requirement
but i dont think windows server 2025 requires tpm
There was change recently in the .iso file. You need older install media for non-supported hardware
Just for testing, try a pirated one with pre activation. I am not joking. test it to see if it works, There are tons of ISO which are built to bypass every check
Whenever this has happened to me, it’s usually after copying the files to a usb and it hasn’t copied over properly. I really don’t think it’s tpm as it wouldn’t get that far, it usually throws up an error about not being compatible.
Can you check the logs? You can use ChatGPT for specific instructions, I think it’s like alt and f10 during install to bring up command and then work from there instead of guessing because it could be anything and from the answers everyone is clueless
Edit and my $1 guess is some virtio driver
