GreenCloud's Zero Tolerance for Child Pornography
I’m a Greencloudvps customer who prepaid for a 3-year plan to host a free, ad-free photo upload website as a personal project.
Given the nature of user-generated content, some harmful material inevitably gets uploaded. I implemented the projectarachnid.ca API to monitor and manage content, but some inappropriate images still went undetected, resulting in reports from various sources.
After four such reports, Greencloudvps wiped all my data. I promptly removed reported content within 30 minutes each time, yet on the fourth instance, my VPS data was erased just 5 minutes after the report. Despite my full cooperation in addressing violations, they deleted my entire dataset of about 1.5 million images.
Has anyone else encountered a similar issue with a hosting provider?
I asked to have my service temporarily restored for 3 days to back up and delete my data, but they refused.
Does anyone have experience with a similar situation? ![]()

So where's your backup?
If you build an object storage, immediate file sync is the first thing you should consider.
no because nobody does that
RAID is backup
Did you read the ToS?
Buddy so brave host on GCV on that scale without asking use-case first.
Scale is not the problem
Content is
you host sensitive content and scale it without fully reading TOS and not even have a backup for this
..?
Told it b4.
Host has RAID, so no backup needed
I mean, if on that scale (which big enough to have loss) he didnt ask use case first to GCV and brave enough to host it.
Also he said removed content within 30 minutes, which probably there some miss communication support and abuse team about this case (even they doing quick response time)
Looks like OP thought as long as I filter content I will br fine, without actually reading the TOS
Yeah...
Of course I read it, but didn't think they would delete customer data after 5 minutes
I know content matters, but I can't control 100% of the content users post, that's my fault.
You had 3 strikes already.
Not sure what made you think they would slide it by
They care about their infrastructure and ip reputation.
I would run rsync once per minute to backup my files to another server.
It's a basic skill every webmaster should have.
No, raid is not a backup
https://www.raidisnotabackup.com/
It is
Raid offers protection against a drive failing. That's it. Raid helps with high availability. Backups allow you to restore if the computer burns down. Raid is not a backup.
They are being sarcastic ;-)
So we all agree
@wangyuidl You have been warned and given multiple opportunities to address this issue, but you have not taken action. This is the fifth report. These are not random abuse reports; they consistently involve the same child pornography images. It is your responsibility to monitor and maintain a fraud-free platform.
child porn worse scum ever @wangyuidl gtfo
I can't even imagine trying to run a free image site, what a hassle man.
yes, my fault
They gave you 4 strikes that one more than expected. Seems pretty fair to me.
Yes, it would be nice if they gave time to backup and find another provider
They gave you multiple chances, but you never took any effective action. You only deleted the data after receiving a notice. Then, when they stopped giving you chances, you started posting complaints and accusations—it's honestly laughable.
in deed. OP should have implemented more strict monitoring.
unlike worpdress (any blog) comment section which has a feature called "moderation" where every comment needs to be manually gone through the admin/moderator before it gets published, you can implement similar feature on your file sharing site.
Just removing the stuff after notification is obviously not enough but you need to make changes to disallow/find this content in the first place. Your current solution is not good enough and no provider wants to deal with daily or weekly reports for the rest of your booked term.
