hmm I wonder why https://au1.workspace.org is not resolving

I have the same issue, but are you sure it’s not eu1?

I was suggesting to @Francisco that we need an AU-based service. Gentle pressure, just like @COLBYLICIOUS did to get the EU service

I think CF takes a BIND import, i'm guessing bunny would be the same.

    Will tinker with :)

@Francisco - is any infrastructure shared between the EU and US mail services? (Apart from the account control panel which I'm assuming in hosted somewhere in the US (?))

From memory I remember some talk about EU and US mail services sharing outgoing SMTP via EU - is this the case at present or something planned for the future?

    Thankyou!

They share an outgoing set of relay IP's, but we're likely going to spin off another IP block just for all the EU usage. Likely move the EU shared/resellers there too.

  • @Francisco is there any GDPR thing or something like that just because you are hosting this in EU?

We need to work on the documents side for the site.

For webhosting, from where I am, the ping increased from ~45-50 to ~65ms due to this move.

    From where? Somewhere further south/east?

    From Romania.

Really? I'm in Bucharest and according to my uptime kuma it went from ~45 to 36ms currently.

I was at work to be honest at that time but when I'll be home I am gonna ping again.

    I am from Brasov.

I pinged last night but forgot to write there. Pinged eu1.workspace.org and got 44-45ms, seems good to me to be honest.

@Francisco is there any better DDoS protection on the new location though?

    When are Switzerland resellers/crates coming?

    June or July :)

The wait continues. Can I assume the privacy thing is different between 2 EU locations?

We considered just shifting everything to CH at first, but people complained because it's not technically EU.

But with BuyVM moving there we can get a good deal on some rack space, so we'll send a few nodes for people that prefer it over NL.

Mind you this is for shared only. We aren't putting email in CH at the moment.

Namecrane is the reason why I'm evil.

I kinda regret renewing my current webhosting service last month at a different provider. Makes me sad. Namecrane EU looks good.

    You’re most welcome.

I’ll work on some feature requests soon, namely “domain defaults”.

Every dollar of it :) EAS isn’t handled by SM, that’s done via zpush. Other things like rclone and FTPs are our own abominations.

  • Genuine question: other than latency, is there any other benefit to getting the EU version?

Say, for privacy reasons, the data is in EU but the company seems to be an LLC in the US, so the government can still demand for the data, right?

I was weighing my options and went with the US plan, since I believe either way as long as the company is registered in the US it's required to submit data if requested, but I'm not actually sure what the protocol is.

    Nope.

I was under the assumption that the GDPR applies to where the data is stored and not where the user is from though.

Believe me, they are total abominations. FTP shouldn't exist, yet... it does. I blame the lack of attention span seeing a shiny new challenge to tackle.

GDPR applies to people living in EU states, they don't have to be EU citizens.

  • Hey if I get a reseller plan, are the server IP NameCrane branded or do you provide white labeled IPs with the service?

The IPs should show as our white label org.

Us1 might not, but will be fixed.
