Stalwart Mail Server alternative to Mailcow

I just wanted to announce to those currently hosting or interested in self-hosting their mail servers that a new version of the open source Stalwart Mail Server now has been released including a web-based admin tool written in Rust. Here are the links to some screenshots and the blog announcement.

I'm going to bump this over all the dhmo threads (the trolling is starting to get annoying, but anyways), looks like a cool project! It solves most of the issues I've had with docker-mailserver, I might switch sometime soon! :-).
Edit: also, the screenshot links link to nowhere for me.

  • You guys are cool! I saw your project not so long ago, and at the time I was thinking: ah, it's too bad there isn't a WEB admin page, too bad. Soon you guys had it, kudos!

Just so you know I am not the maker, just sharing cool stuff :)

Just tried it out on a new server, and it is so easy! Beats setting up Dovecot and Postfix handily! I would rather admin from the terminal, but you can't have it all..!

Was using this stuff for a short time. Functionally good. But I'm lazy to maintain everything so I bend over to CraneMail for easier life.

I've tried it before, but the admin console is kinda weird. now im still looking other mail zerver to replace my zimbra. maybe unjust go to zimbra build by maldua instead.

Yea it does have a cluster feature
But not sure right now if this is a Enterprise feature.

I would wait few decades to see if stalwart is reliable.

I'm using the cluster feature without an enterprise plan.

I've tried Stalwart in a VM. It's good to have a modern FOSS alternative to Exchange (even if it's being developed).

Many companies who want to run their own email use Exchange, including "Big Tech" companies not typically seen as "Windows shops" like Meta and Amazon.

Yes, Postfix and Dovecot exist, and I use it for my personal and work emails, but for a large organization you really had to use Exchange and Outlook due to good calendaring and AD support.

The biggest fear is if I ever have employees I might have to switch to Gmail or 365 which I really don't. And I worked at Microsoft 365 for 5 years.

However a concern is moving the configs, because Stalwart is a bit funky that way.

My biggest gripe with all self hosted email solutions is that all OSS webmail projects (that I know off) suck from UX/UI perspective. Nothing what I have seen comes even close to a GMail, Proton, or hell even Zoho. Would love to be proven wrong.

Might try it as MX2 - if it compiles (and works) on FreeBSD ...

    I'm a little bit confused.
Stalwart is a mail server. No Exchange server. It also is no comparison to Gmail or Office 365.

It does absolutely nothing you could not achieve with postfix + dovecot.
Not saying it's a bad thing by any means, just comparing it to Exchange is kinda odd.
