I've heard it's great, if you're able to sign up, I haven't been able to.

@JstTan said: Are there any conditions, or any restrictions to that?

    Yes, don't idle it. https://docs.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/Content/FreeTier/freetier_topic-Always_Free_Resources.htm#compute__idleinstances

And there's some regions you should avoid as they're always out of stock (I can't remember which), IIRC you can't change region after making an account either.

@JstTan said: Is it actually free for life?

Well they can terminate it whenever they feel like it.

I think I saw that needed a credit card to sign up, is it that what causing issues? Or what is causing you unable to sign up?

I have valid credit card but I got ABC error evertime

To be honest it has the longest uptime I've seen on all my servers. But not knowing when it'll be terminated or killed, I pretty much idle it and don't put anything important on it.

Wow, this is amazing. But I thought that other mentioned that it needed to keep running to be not be terminated?

Could be, though they seem to be pretty random. When it comes to Oracle, everything can be YMMV. If people think this 1961 days of uptime means it's production-level, think twice :/

Well, at least if it could be running for over 1961 days, it means that there are still people able to use it for some times.

  • I have been using these for a 3+ years now and these are nice to run small websites or as development server both in terms of performance and uptime.

It’s not just cards but could be your email, contact address, IP, and a lot of other things. If you have a work email, try with that. A clean IP would also be a deal breaker.

Oh, so there is many factors that will be depended on, whether if I can get a free VM?

    So here's the thing.

    My IP is extremely clean.
I've tried both Gmail, my own domain using porkbun, and I am absolutely not using my work email (via Exchange).
I don't sign up with shit details either, everything is actually accurate.... Hell they could KYC me and it would be correct.

No other provider has done this (not even hetzner or OVH).
Greencloud KYC'd and I said fuck off.
Oracle just tells me to fuck off regardless.

Since there's no presence, I guess they don't want my business.

Seems once you have an issue with any other details, the phone number is blacklisted. So you need a fresh number for every card/address/etc attempt

Midway 2024 and start of this year. My error is that it can't process the transaction, which isn't true because I see a 0.01 Singapore dollar transaction every time.

I'd much rather pay for a VM than constantly worry about it getting nuked by Oracle or when will the free tier limits be changed without me knowing.

When you get the free tier, you obviously aren't entitled to the same SLA that payg users are.

that would def annoy me as well.
