    there is no network guarantee to china/CN2 from jakarta my friend.

    obviously server location is in indonesia, therefore you should be checking network conditions from indonesian isps.

  • Instead of the unappealing deal, I decided to get the $8.5 2C 4G 60G 200mbps razor instance. Will post yabs soon.

    When the story went viral, Tencent Cloud restored data that is supposedly "permanently deleted", which means they didn't actually erase the data.

    I saw tweet point to a link saying the data would be wiped after 24 hours.
    Fortunately, it had not been 24 hours since the incident, so Tencent Cloud helped restore the data.

  • I'll pass since it's not recurring discount

    Good moaning friends and family, here's the yabs I promised for the

    Tencent Lighthouse Razor Speed bundle
    * 2 vCPU
    * 4 GB RAM
    * 60 GB Storage
    * Unlimited 200mbps up and ~400mbps ish down
    * $8.5 / month

    Do not buy the regular Lighthouse deals, that 20-30mbps upload speed limit is fucking pathetic. It literally handicaps your VM, it's like paying for a porsche that doesn't have an engine and has to be towed everywhere. Emberrassing. Otherwise, I see the Razor Speed type VMs as a great alternative to AWS Lightsail.

    Restricting sales to new customers only? That's straight-up unfair to long-time users.

    Limiting purchases to new customers is clearly discriminatory against existing users.

    Just for information for people who bought their servers.

    I just bought the cheap $10 Linux server from them and found that their OS templates come pre-installed with a lot of suspicious monitoring services such as barad_agent and YDService. There may be other stuff running there that I didn't notice.

    Personally I wouldn't trust those background monitoring services, and will definitely reinstall my own ISO before putting anything important on it.

    Let's clarify these, because it's understandable that people would be suspicious of these especially since Tencent is a chinese company.

    barad_agent:

    Provides real time system resource metrics on the Instance Monitoring panel.

    YDService:

    This is a service that is used by the Cloud Workload Protection Platform. The free version we all have access to provides a dashboard that lists possibly suspicious logins, password cracking attempts, and not much else tbh. Most of the advanced and I'd say useful stuff are locked behind a subscription.

    You can freely uninstall this service by following this guide:
    https://www.tencentcloud.com/document/product/1163/50877

    Note, that custom ISO installs are not possible, you'll have to submit a ticket for that.

    That's right, but they have an option to upload and install from custom ISOs that do not contain such services. In that case, the system metrics panel will show "no data." Technically, you could uninstall barad_agent as well, but I find the metrics panel very useful.

    0.5 TB is this a joke or something bruh

    I'd say for $10/y it's fine, since it only counts outgoing traffic. Incoming does not count towards the data transfer quota.

    While we didn't get exclusive offers, we should be grateful that such a large company (Tencent Cloud is basically the Amazon of China, owns WeChat, etc.) joined our forum and considered us to share their promotions with us. Remember, if we all act like preschoolers from the first minute, they'll just run away and never look back.

    Let's welcome them and hope they'll bring something exclusive in the future.

    If you check out my previous yabs (Xeon CPU) it seems like it's much of a gamble how much performance you get for the same money. I got lucky this time, it seems.

    Try this

    20Mbps?
    ClawCloud provides 100 Mbps even when throttled.

    this is so funny because check this thread:
    https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/205280/beware-of-clawcloud-misleading-bandwidth-claims-and-terrible-support#latest

    It's certainly worse if you get 10-20mbps while promised 1gbps than if you get 20-30mbps and it was actually advertised as 20-30mbps. You can decide though.

    I hope @Rubben gets at least 100% OFF at Tencent for his unique advertising campaign.
