Beware of ClawCloud: Misleading Bandwidth Claims and Terrible Support

AlexyAlexy Member

I want to share my recent frustrating experience with ClawCloud, hoping it helps others avoid the same trap.

A few months ago, I purchased one of their Hongkong VPS packages: 2 vCPU / 2GB RAM / 40GB storage / 1Gbps bandwidth / 1TB monthly traffic. Everything was fine at first.
But just this morning, I was using the server to stream a movie, and mid-way through, the stream suddenly started buffering endlessly. I ran a speed test and was shocked to see that the network speed had dropped to 10~20 Mbps — a far cry from the promised 1Gbps. Of course, I understand that the 1Gbps bandwidth is shared, but 10~20 Mbps ??????

I opened a support ticket immediately, reporting the issue. Their response? A generic, copy-paste reply saying that my server had "server triggered a bandwidth throttling mechanism" and "which will automatically lift after the server hasn't occupied bandwidth for a certain period."

I followed up with another message:
Can you explain the speed limit mechanism? The total bandwidth is 1gbps, but users cannot use 100mbps for more than 1 hour? And after the server traffic was reset this month, I only used 31G in total, so the server traffic and bandwidth are only for viewing, not for use, right?
Guess what? They completely ignored my follow-up. No response at all.
This kind of throttling mechanism makes the VPS almost unusable, especially for regular tasks that require stable network performance. Even worse, there was no mention of any speed throttling policy when I purchased the plan, and ClawCloud failed to provide a reasonable explanation or justification for the throttling issue. Clearly, ClawCloud is engaging in misleading advertising.

What's more frustrating is their support attitude — it's basically: "We think you abused the network, so we throttled your server. There's nothing more to explain, just wait — it will be lifted eventually... maybe." No transparency, no timeline, no real explanation. Just vague, dismissive responses and then silence.

As of now, the network speed is still limited to 10–20 Mbps.

It is clowncloud. What do you expect? Pack your things, chargeback and move on. No drama, no fuss.

  • You get what you pay for.

  • End is nigh

  • Scammers like clawcloud allowed to sell on LET as long as they pay for the provider tag?

when ClawCloud posted cheap offers some time ago I was thinking to get one of those, but after I have read their policy,

that they may require any kind of documents, they may inspect your system and drives any time, it was not sounds so privacy friendly

(in my state of mind if I trust the company, so there no need for drive or file encryption,

but it don’t sounds nice that someone will look at your files at any time or break your privacy asking for a selfie with your id in a hand (just as example)

Another thing that was strange for me is that ClawCloud provide small amount of Traffic for the offerings, also some people said that support there is “so-so”

I can not say that this Provider is breaking anyone privacy or it’s not good, it’s just what I use to think at that time, my single personal opinion.

Many people are glad to use their offers, so it depends on each case I guess, maybe there is something about streaming.

so i tested my HK 1C1G20GB
    500gb @ 200mbps
after one YABS iperf run its throttled to 58mbps

however on bench.sh it shows Hong Kong server throttled to 4mbps which is kinda atrocious since it's in HK.

so yeah would avoid both clawcloud and Alibaba. not worth the time.

luckily i have hosthatch 10gbps. best deal in a while.

I will just leave mine to the extinction. I will get BW emails for it monthly.

Some $12 out of the window.

Their promotion thread is more AI posts than actual humans. I reported one but no one cared so I guess that's allowed here?
