pretty sure everyone at LET knows providers can easily get root access to rented services. if you're gonna say "not your server, not your data," then why stop at VPS providers? your ISP, even the guys who built your OS could easily be snooping around. Sure, it's Security 101 but unless you're running some server hidden away somewhere, you're always trusting somebody. just be smart about which risks you accept and lock down whatever you realistically can.
Show that the people in the ISP or the OS guys snooping around and backlash will be same.

When public data is breaking AUP, that's a problem. That is public data. The fact it was public data that breaks AUP was the original problem. You can all call it snooping, or whatever, it's public exposed data. Indexing is off now, so you need to know the file names to see them. So essentially, anyone can store random name files publicly and break AUP so we would not know. I assume that is what you want? It's like that now, thanks to all the outcry. So we adjust the system to prevent this.
You are wrong. Again taking it out of context. This is not a VPS or a dedicated server, it was a FTP Storage account on a shared server AND THE AUP INFRINGING DATA WAS IN PUBLIC_HTML HOSTED PUBLICLY. But yes, any ISP can get root into any system they own, you did not know that? Your only recourse is to encrypt data on a path in a VPS or get a dedicated server and encrypt the file system plus lock the boot process with a password if you are that paranoid about privacy. You have to trust your host, and so the host has to trust you too!
Remember CH also broke the lock on his tenants door to snoop on their files. This isn't the first and only case of them snooping, and likely won't be the last. They don't respect anyone.
PSA: your data will be read and nothing is private. Is this really the host you want?

Answer is, when you upload, encrypt it so that the host doesn't know the content even if they snoop.
But in the latest development, @CharityHost_org even objected to that (encrypted file upload) and threatened to ban the user.

OMG! You never read or listen! The domain YOU choose when you sign up for FTP accounts. YOU CHOOSE. Meaning it can be any domain or subdomain. It does not need to be registered or resolve, but it is a requirement. We do not provide free domains for this right now!
