Cosmic Guard vs Gcore vs Neoprotect for Game Server DDoS Protection
in Providers
Hey everyone,
I'm planning to host a Counter-Strike 1.6 server and I'm currently deciding between three DDoS protection providers: Cosmic Guard, Gcore, and Neoprotect.
I'm mainly looking for solid protection on both Layer 4 and Layer 7, and especially care about features like GoldSrc filters and A2S caching, which are crucial for CS 1.6 game servers.
Has anyone here used any of these for game hosting? Which one would you recommend in terms of actual mitigation strength, reliability, and latency?
Appreciate any insight, thanks!

Cosmic Guard has skid vibes
Keep yapping. Reguards.
reguards retard
I don't smoke trees, sorry man.
My Polish brotherman, wok is not trees.
Hey @SirFoxy and @sillycat ,i really reappreciate your input, but please let’s keep things respectful and on-topic. I started this thread to get help choosing the best DDoS protection for my game server, not to spark arguments. Let’s keep it helpful and chill. Thanks!
I got you chief 🫡 , my bad. Genuinely, I would avoid Cosmic Guard though.
Tell us why or gtfo.

Pulling MannDude into that is a fucking joke, and OP wants
mitigation strength, reliability, and latencythis has nothing to do with that. Id rather hear from someone that uses cosmic guard with some good/bad stuff instead of some dumbass lawsuit from a dumbass company.I would recommend against CosmicGuard for CS1.6 if you use GameTracker for the server list (which most do) since it seems to have issues since GameTracker do A2S very strangely. There are 2 filter variants though, the Detection mode may help a bit better than Always On but never tested it. Their generic mitigation would probably help the most though if you never added filters and just whitelisted ports.
Anything else, Cosmic is pretty much great for, way better than alternatives.
I know Path have good CS1.6 filters but then you lose uptime, so advise against.
Can't comment on NullCore/Neo.
Thanks a lot for the insight!
Yeah, GameTracker's behavior with A2S seems to be a common issue from what I've heard. I wasn't aware that CosmicGuard had trouble with that , that’s really good to know. I’ve already tried Path.net before and honestly, it was a bad experience for me. Their GoldSrc filter still has a lot of problems, and even after talking directly with their devs, they basically said “this is just how our DDoS protection works.”
If anyone has more experience with NeoProtect or NullCore specifically for CS 1.6 (with GoldSrc and A2S in mind), I’d really appreciate hearing about it. I'm still trying to make the final call on which provider gives the most solid protection + stability combo. Also, in general, does anyone have experience with Neoprotect.net’s DDoS protection? I haven’t tried them yet, but I’m considering them as an option.
Appreciate the feedback, really helpful!
Yeah its quite a common issue, they seem to force A2S challenge so any form of A2S cache seems to break it (if I remember correctly, could be wrong).
Worst case scenario, Cosmic's generic mitigation will still kick ass.
I am using neoprotect so far no issues with GT scanning + has CS 1.6 filters on.
Thanks for the feedback! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear.
How's NeoProtect's DDoS protection overall in your experience? Is it solid and reliable under real attacks?
Also, if you don’t mind , do you have Discord? I’d really appreciate a quick chat to ask a few things directly, if you're okay with that.
Sure. DC ID: ts786
For me neoprotect is good we did not had any issues. We run zm server .
Neoprotect & Stormwall
Take a look how shady they are and how they are lying directly to your eyes:
And this crap is on their index page. Blatant lie.
Their network is also kinda cringe. But their filters are pretty good.
are you refering to neoprotect then yes their filters are good. i have one server cs 1.6 runs well.
Yes their filters are pretty good but their network is cringe.
isn't it just singlehomed datapacket?
Yep besides Amsterdam if I remember correctly
That's 90% of the DDoS Mitigation industry.
maybe 90% of the tiny "providers" that people don't take seriously. blame it on datapacket being willing to sell 1g commits on 100g ports.
Are they simply using datapacket dos protection on a dedicated server with pfsense?

Yeah but of course you’re going to dickride cosmicguard… you work at eugamehost… why wouldn’t you.
Any will do other than gcore… get a good host and if you see a leak they’ll notify the DDoS protection provider to get it patched. Not too hard to come by, that’s pretty basic.
@PolyAnthi @MannDude @interservermike No DP only kicks in with big attacks, the rest they do themselfs, but they are mostly singlehomed DP and also use DP to GRE Anycast which is cringe imo.
That’s pretty cleaver imo. A few more dp servers in different regions would solve the singlehomed issue I assume?
