I wouldn't hold your breath.
What could they possible say to get out of this, without confirming they snoop on their users' data?
Waiting for the charityhost free giveaway to expire... Back when I was on Megathreads like BF/CM, he said some things in those threads that made me know I wouldn't touch it afterwards, but that was before I participated in their giveaway events (I can't quite recall the exact timeline). But fortunately, I actually won. At the time, I was just curious about what’s so special about the FTP storage box, so I redeemed it, but in reality, it’s just one of the options for cold backup.
That they will totally peak and look for porn... Hey... Maybe they want money so they can pay for porn? Or pay some of their debts? Their prices were too low... I doubt they were sustainable.
I don’t know if they were specifically looking for it. The day their panel was fixed, I just logged in to take a look. The panel was a bit crude, so I didn’t use it. It wasn’t until the OP shared his experience of being banned that I uploaded a small Linux ISO for them to check...
clownshoeshost.
If I generate a random binary file using
dd if=/dev/urandom of=illegal-porn.mp4.encrypted bs=1M count=100and upload it, will my account be suspended? If anyone posts that image/photo again, they're out
I was sorely tempted to warn everyone who quoted it
Needed to do a f-ing massive cleanup
Porn is an AUP violation at CharityHost.org. Free account filled to the top with porn. $25 fee is an exceptional allowance if the porn has any value to the free service customer if he does not have backups otherwise. The account is suspended, but we can terminate it due to AUP violation. Read the AUP, knowing it and acknowledgement by link in the TOS is a requirement to use the services.
give the man his porn back
stop stealing people's porn
It's fine, but the customer abused the AUP terms which has an admin fee associated with it, and is making more of a problem and time is money.
10/10 answer, did not answer anything in this topic.
Mods, you can close it, it's crystal-clear now, provider answered all the questions and no doubt is in the right.
Sure, but are you totally glossing over the actual problem.
Why are you looking at people's files? Did you receive a report? Was there resource abuse? and no using 100% of storage for cold storage is not resource abuse.
If time is money why are you wasting your time looking in random users' accounts?
Wait a fucking minute, that implies not only did he snoop in on the filenames he actually peeked at the contents to know it was actual porn.
What if I just liked storing company financial transactions in funny filenames?
Bro what about you peek into customer's files? Your hardware your rights?
1-) How do you notice that he is hosting actually adult content on your system?
2-) What difference does it make if the user is paid or free? Does it mean if a paid user does the same thing, you would take a different action? Or look away? If not, then why keep mentioning it's a free account.
3-) Go few posts back and you can see comments from your other users (the ones that didn't host adult content on your servers) saying that you accessed their files, changed their passwords to look thru their files. Did you take such actions or not? (Yes / No answer expected)
@DP, @CharityHost_org is online and acknowledged the situation but didn't give any direct answer to raised concerns about accessing to users' files.
To add, here is his answers from other thread:

Based on these answers, it's clear to say that the provider doesn't respect any privacy and knows no limit about user files. He doesn't deserve to be called a provider let alone be allowed to sell anything on this board.
i dont care he store porn or what inside the services
but provider is looking up on "maybe" all the clients files
that is really red flag, even if this is free, you @CharityHost_org no have rights to see on it
unless he distributed it and have been reported
if he only put it up as backup storage, what rights did you have to look into the files ?
Your provider privacy is really ridiculous, now you just destroy your own reputation by doing this.
From my understand after he keep pointing out "free hosting" is:
I gave u free services b*tches, be grateful.
*quick PR damage control noises*
Nah man, he is a lunatic.

"If you break laws, policies, you don't deserve privacy" is what he says. The prick think he is above the law. Just because someone hosted adult content on his servers and break his policies, he thinks they are criminal scums.
Even criminals have human rights.
If you are hosting your files on @CharityHost_org, nothing stops them from going thru your files. They can just find some BS excuse. Or even if someone sends a complaint about your IP, they would use this as an excuse to go thru your files.
As you didn't answer any of the important questions here, let's break them down....
What led you to suspect the OP and choose to audit their storage? Were you monitoring their download sources or was it something else?
Do you ever audit other clients' storage to ensure they're not breaching your AUP? And if so, how often and on what basis?
How specifically do you audit the storage of clients you suspect of breaching your AUP? Are you just checking metadata or are you directly accessing the content of the files?
Do you only access the data directly on the VPS, or do you take a copy of the virtual disk and read the data from there? If so, what happens to the copied data after your investigation and the client has been suspended?
This is really out of question, i don't care about the OP is going to back up and got demanded to pay fee or something of it. or about he store p*rn and etc
the main point of my post is that everyone need to worry about the privacy when they host their data on @CharityHost_org
i also not care if he using the paid service or he got it free
there are no right reason that the provider can do something like this. unless the client really break the AUP such as distributed it. or he store some illegal such as ch!ld p0rn on the service. i really support on the provider to do this. but this provider no have honor the privacy of his clients files or anything.
We do not allow AUP, TOS, laws, policy violations, and have admin fee associated with violations. If it is a no-fault violation such as being compromised/hacked, we can choose to waive the fee. The specifics of the situation at hand are not debatable and sharing further details are unwarranted as they have no value to anyone except potential illegal and abuse users in the sake of 'privacy' when breaking rules. We own the network and systems, and are responsible for the reputation and integrity of them. We are done with this. Over and out. @angstrom close this as it has zero value from a bashing campaign by OP that did an AUP violation, supported by the common LET trolls. We have taken way too much time on this.
That's fine and normal. What's not normal is you snooping on everyone. Since you are not addressing that it's safe to assume you don't deny snooping and might snoop on anyone for any reason by saying "we were just checking for AUP violation and didn't find one"
I'm sorry but it's not your thread.
You have the right to close your other offer threads, but you can't come to random ones and demand them be closed.
But how did you know that the OP was violating your AUP? The fact you don't want to answer that makes this all look really bad 😬
Perfectly OK.
What's not OK is proactively going through users data looking for things.
If the user signs up with the hostname 'private-porn-stash99' then sure, reject the order. You're going to go through the wrong persons data, or someones crypto keys are backed up there and their wallet gets yoinked, and you're going to be suspect #1.
You're going to literally get sued into the ground, and I'm not sure if a corporate veil will protect you in this.
You are absolutely fucked.
Francisco
Bro, you clearly not going to answer all the questions here?
Sir Snoopalot.
It seems privacy is a joke here...
Dude made his way to Calin's garden.
