Open a ticket and we can take a look.

I would make sure you have a 'display name' set inside of Smartermail since that can cause an issue.

Our webmail doesn't support that, but if you PGP your emails in a desktop/mobile client it'll pass just fine.

    Francisco

But the mails are stored encrypted at rest?

I mean, your clients the one that’s encrypting it, we don’t see any of the body unencrypted, no? :)

But yes everything is encrypted at rest.

    Francisco

I was asking about the server side encryption, good to know the data is stored encrypted at rest

  • Are these provisioned manually? Ordered yesterday and it still says pending. Trying to determine if it is waiting for me to do something.

Although I'm not sure how exactly to understand "encrypted at rest" in this context, I'm pretty sure that we're not talking about "zero-access encryption" (unless one uses PGP encryption)

Which isn't a criticism per se, but it's important to be clear about what is meant/intended

I'd assume it's standard LUKS encryption (or similar) where the whole disk is encrypted.

Can we use this for outbound SMTP relaying? I self-host my emails for a few domains, but I have catchall email addresses at those domains at another provider and use that provider just for sending emails.

If I get a lifetime plan now, can I upgrade it to get more space in the future even if you discontinue lifetime plans?

Sorry about that, I'll take a look. It's most likely in my queue.

I was busy all day working at the the DC on the new SQL node, and then dealing with DB Shenker at the same time.

    ZFS native encryption.

Yeah that's perfectly fine to use it for relaying.

The lifetimes won't go away, they'll just go up in price to balance stock. So you can upgrade later but the price difference will be bigger. So if you had a 250G right now you'd just pay another $69.42 to bump to 500G. If you upgrade in a couple weeks after the price hike (~$10 more per 250G), then you'd be paying that new price for the upgrade.

Anyone has trouble accessing the service over IMAP? I'm getting an error message on my iPhone seemingly out of nowhere. The same accounts over EWS in Apple Mail on Mac are fine

Edit: Nevermind, restarted the app and is now connecting. Must have been a glitch from a previous VPN session. Sorry about that :)

I just removed some IP blocks - blacklisted for bad login attempts/etc. Try again and make sure the password is correct.

OK, so it might have just coincided with your IP unblocking (and I don't think I've attempted with the wrong password, haven't touched that since configuring everything). But it does work now, thank you!

Any news on which date the EU lifetime plan will come out? Would love to buy one, but NV has too much latency from where I am physically placed. :)

@NameCrane Do you by any chance offer creation of inboxes at a domain that NameCrane owns, like [email protected] or whatever? I don't care about branding my emails, but I am concerned about a hypothetical feces-hitting-the-fan situation where I can't renew my domain name for some reason and lose access to my email and therefore to my entire online and financial life.

Soon, if the shipping company ever picks up the crate. @Francisco thinks we're getting another box of crane parts delivered to the DC.

Nah, we only work with your domains. There's a lot of overhead in making sure people don't completely burn the domain's reputation or do illegal things with it.

For important stuff I usually pay for multiple years on the domain. Pick a domain and then register it for 10 years and it becomes less of a problem you need to think about.

To add to that, .xyz is cheap if you're fine with a 9 digits only domain. It's a buck or two a year, so throwing 10 years at it is easy enough and a good 'break glass' domain as a friend likes to call it.

Actually I am thinking about getting my phone number .xyz. This is crazy cheap and usually on sales on many registrars.

First time using an email hosting provider like CraneMail. I was going to buy email hosting from elsewhere but the pricing for CraneMail is just too good. Before, I've mainly used Proton/Tuta and Gmail. So far, it has been working great.

    Set it to auto renew.

It's a really bad idea to use a domain provided by an email company, because then you're essentially locked into using that company unless you want to spend time updating all your accounts to a new email address. Using your own domain is more professional and decouples you from the provider.
