Most likely, if @NDTN didn't left a hole in my wallet
Best offer for 2025!
I honestly don't know
I'd think it'd be fine?
Francisco
bought, excited to try things out
Lifetime plans are a joke.
Lessons I learned from MyW.
Hi @Francisco, what happens to incoming email if one of the users in the domain is disabled (doing this using the Admin User - Domain Settings)? What does the sending party receive when trying to send an email to this user?
Sorry to hear about your rough ride on that.
NameCrane is extremely well funded so that's all a non issue. We have no debts and our investments happily pay cranemails operating costs, not even counting recurring revenue.
I have more years than I can count being in the hosting industry. We wouldn't have considered doing these plans if we thought there was a chance we'd slip up.
Best of luck.
Francisco
It should bounce back saying so.
Francisco
Saying "Disabled" or "Non-existent"? If the latter, this might be a way of removing an address from spam lists methinks...
Good, you convinced me, I will try NameCrane next time. 🙂
Remote Server returned: 'The recipient does not exist'We've now made it so you can modify the Smartermail login page right from the domain new/edit page. This is useful since prior to this you couldn't (easily) insert HTML/JS into the page.
Francisco
@Francisco @NameCrane any deals on reseller?
Not at the moment. I'll likely put some up in conjunction with the EU launch next month. Probably only for longer billing cycles, so if you wanted to go in on a monthly plan and then upgrade or change later to annual (or longer) billing cycle I'll honor that coupon.
First, I respect avoiding the discussion of too many business details on this forum.
Just curious: Is there a plan in case interest rates go back to near zero? I'm imagining that "lifetime" revenue could do well, now, when invested in fixed income. But things can change. No obligation to respond, by the way.
@Francisco
Previously signed up for the Starter 100G and paid for 2 year ($15) for one of my domain's email.
After using the platform live day-to-day and realizing the ease of use of SmarterMail, the great protection and reports from Spam Experts, the storage, and more.... is there any way I can upgrade to the Lifetime 250G for $69.42 (bonus would be to reduce by the $15 already paid) and have current account upgraded without any downtime?
No problem. You can ticket and we'll do a one time invoice to make up the difference. We then apply the resources. No downtime, completely painless (minus whatever pain you feel paying ~$45).
Francisco
They aren't going back to 0 unless we have a re-run of 2008/2009 or something. If 2008/2009 happened, then we'd def rush all of our funds towards ETF's and cash in.
Still, we'd just swap to ETF's (VOO, etc). Cranemail has no real additional costs for us to operate as we already need all this rackspace to handle shared/resellers/domains/etc. We haven't committed to anything new minus a bit of licensing for Smartermail.
Spamexperts was already signed up back in August/September for shared/resellers. We had to buy some hardware, but we have a lot of experience on min/maxing hardware from BuyVM.
Francisco
Would (the no downtime part) work even if I already have domains hosted and actively used on the account?
Yep. I'm just switching the plan on the backend, so your resources just get an update. Drop a sales ticket with the request and I'll issue the upgrade invoice and make the change.
Yeah, so there will be an allocation across equities, fixed income, etc. The plan is to never really touch it if we don't have to - outside of hardware our main costs are space/power and licensing, which are pretty minimal.
Possible we'd need to dip into returns every ~5 yrs or so for major capex purchases - mainly replacing aging drives/hardware.
But as Fran said before, we're profitable on the recurring income piece alone - mainly thanks to reseller plans which will never have lifetimes, and we're heavily weighted towards annual/triennial plan income vs lifetimes on the standard plans.
tl;dr it's being managed by adults with some financial sense
Great! Ticket created, invoice paid and Mike made the changes. Great service and No downtime.
Thank you!
Just grabbed 3 years plan for personal use. Waiting for EU to be available for order to grab the reseller plan.
@NameCrane & @Francisco
If I may, I kindly ask what you do with all the money from lifetimes. What do you invest it into? Considering how MyW failed and got to be helped by a third party and not lose customer's data, I hope your plans are not the same, especially considering Namecrane brand is quite new (1 year in business?).
If I may, I kindly ask what happened with domain registration? A few months ago (if my memory serves me right) it was announced that Namecrane would become a domain registrar. What happened to this idea?
Will lifetime option available with EU? I will get EU because in my past experience (such as pcloud storage), EU location has much better connection to my country.
You're assuming namecrane started with $0 though. Namecrane's shared side is quite profitable. Email costs us smartermail licenses and that's it at the moment. The rackspace we already have for the other services anyway, we're just using resources we're already paying for.
At the moment money market's are still paying enough on large enough accounts to make it a good enough choice. If interest rates dip enough we'll move things to INDEX funds or similar. With large enough balances you can make quite a bit on dividend returns, or we just pick an INDEX thats dividend focused.
Absolutely still in the works. Some personal crap came up that chewed up a lot of time on everyones plate and then I had to travel to help a friend do a big move. Domains are in the 'pricing' phase on our end, and just finalizing with registries for the rest.
I've been caught up getting Netherlands stuff done for Namecrane as well as working with Hannan as best I can to get Switzerland setup.
Our offerings all go together. When you think of domains you'll obviously think of shared hosting, but almost just as often, email.
Yes, just it'll be $10 or so more I think is the current plan. Same sized plans, same features, just we'll bump price a bit.
Francisco
Hi Fransisco, nice product. The UX is better than DirectAdmin, the current one I use. Some questions, please.
Could the admin enable/disable the File Storage for some domains?
Could the admin limit the file size to be uploaded into File Storage?
Could the admin set to auto delete files in File Storage based on time in folder ( x days after uploaded )?
Interestingly if the account is disabled from within WHMCS dashboard, there is only an option of Enabled / Disabled but this defaults to "Disabled (allow mail)" while if disabled from within the domain admin user there's an extra option "Disabled (do not allow mail)". The latter is what I really wanted, but it's never a bad thing to have options
Drop a ticket and I’ll add it to the crane mail portal.
Francisco
It's funny that WHMCS reminds me to renew my 3 years plan because it's soon.
