Got third VPS with Layer7.net. So glad I found this provider!

  • I can only praise @layer7 so far. I was having transfer speed issues, in particular uploading from my home to the servers, and it turns out it was my router. After changing the router it's dramatically better. Oliver helped a lot during the investigation, so I am very happy with what I have seen so far!

  • I'm still waiting for a storage offer from them! 😊

    They do have storage servers!

  • @layer7 You were right about ISPs being lazy. I had a call with them today, and they said they can't promise they will change anything but they will look into it. It didn't sound at all like they are going to make a big effort. Anyway with the old router all is good! Upload speed varies but it's dramatically better now and downloading is usually at gigabit speed. :)

What was your request to the ISP?

I was having slow upload speeds to Germany and after I tried an old router out of curiosity I saw a dramatic difference. So I contacted the ISP to ask them to investigate but they are useless. I am gonna keep this router since it works better

  • The problem is back even with the old router... I am so tired of it really

  • @layer7 Yesterday I cancelled the servers because of this problem (with my network, not with your service, as you know) but after reading some forums I decided to try and upgrade the firmware on my router and try another server again since I had some credit left, and now I am uploading at 60 MB/sec for the first time since I started using the service. I have now a script running to periodically transfer a large file and log the average transfer speed for some hours. I so much hope this is fixed now.

  • The monitoring is still running and it looks much better. I really hope this is fixed!

Question for those who are more familiar with how routers work: how come that changing router and upgrading the firmware can improve transfer speed by this much? With the previous router I only had speed problems with Germany, Austria and France at least from my testing.
