Telegram will require one of their official clients to receive verification codes, in case you were not using one.

This is a serious bug, any client can receive the captcha, but if you fail to log in on the official client, you can still receive the captcha and log in successfully on other third-party clients, and then your account will be banned.

Never came across that bug. Failed logins in the official client won’t result in your account getting banned when logged in on the unofficial client, assuming you’re not using some obscure third-party clients that blatantly violate Telegram’s ToS. Stick to the popular ones found on app stores and you’d be fine.

In addition, Telegram's own client will not receive the verification code once you stop at the two-step verification process.

I meant to say to receive verification code as SMS, you’d need to use the official client. If you have set up 2FA and don’t remember it, then you’d need to reset it first, and there is a waiting period of 7 days from the date of initiating it, I believe.

Now, if your account is banned, you can reach out to support, and they may or may not lift the ban, but it’s worth a try.

I wrote about the encounter to the officials and they have unblocked me now, but the problem arose that I couldn't get back the admin rights of my previous group, resulting in me and more than 3,000 other users not daring to talk nonsense in the mass, hahaha I'm one of the 3,000, just like them.

I'm now feeding this back to them again, I'm not sure if it will come to fruition, if it doesn't I may have to move to a new group with everyone.

Telegram is always inexplicably and subtly having all sorts of problems, it's just too hard to use, there were already 3000+ users in the group, suddenly I can't log in, and I can't get the verification code on my phone, so I don't want to use it anymore, is there anything you can recommend to replace it?

that's a bummer, I am moving over to telegram slowly. But thanks for sharing the potential problems.

    Signal > Telegram

Only issue for the Signal is have you use your phone number right? Where as the Telly allows you to get one from them or use an alternate one?

All in all Telegram is not suitable for building up too much customer resources, because as it stands I have 3 TG numbers that have more or less run into problems, and some of them can't be changed, and in some cases they can be costly to you, so use them with caution.

Can you please clarify what cannot be changed? The number or the username etc?

Yea, we can buy an anonymous phone number from Telegram to create accounts, but it’s costly af now. For Signal, we need to have our own number.
