Occasionally "friends' family", because I have some friends that asked for accounts for their parents.

I don't wanna run the risk of actually selling invites. Kinda where I draw the line. At best I kindly request them to chip in some kind of symbolic sum every month just to offset the cost slightly.

    Which CPU/GPU do you use?

i5-12500 with the Intel HD Graphics 770 (or something like that)

That's enough to handle 30 simultaneous streams?

I don't struggle with this, but it might be because I have an iGPU that supports HDR and I grab from release groups that do DoVi/HDR hybrids (aka DoVi with HDR fallback).

Yeah but then he said 1080p, so I can't be sure.

I do 4K remuxes too, but for the majority of releasing content I stick to 1080p encodes. At the moment having everything in 4K is too expensive in terms of storage. My primary Plex server (with primarily 1080p where I've been able to get that) sits at 114 TB.

Probably a stupid question, but how do you know if it is the igpu or cpu which is doing the transcoding? I'm running it on my ks le b now, and each time I stream 4K, the cpu usage is like 15-25% (E3 1245 v6)

Plex will tell you if it's using hardware transcoding, but there are a few gotchas.

    • Your host needs the drivers installed for it, not to mention some server motherboards don't even let you utilize the iGPU (apparently).
    • It needs to have access to the iGPU. If you're running it in a Docker container, you need to mount/forward/whatever the iGPU device.
    • You need Plex Pass for hardware transcoding.
    • You might have to manually enable the hardware transcoding in the server settings (under "Transcoder" if you do it via Plex web UI).

Ah. I use jellyfin. I have added the igpu drivers and stuff, but I couldn't find a proper way to check if it's using igpu or cpu.

Current setup is content stored on host C, sshfs to le b

What's the CPU and RAM on server? Wondering if my storage server can handle it or not.

    2c/2g/20gb, xeon gold gen 1, 5TB HDD

    is.. network fast my man?

Guys he has a family too and I can be sure he takes care of his family very well. When he is in Singapore, despite busy schedule setting up servers etc, I remember accompanying him to get a gift for his daughter and he spent a lot of time and effort finding the perfect gift for his princess.

This is exactly why I trust them with production, he is a genuine and humble guy, and I wish him nothing but success :)
