Turns out solia.cloud didn't exit scam, the owner was arrested and servers were seized by feds

This federal seizure happened the day the owner disappeared and stopped responding to everyone's tickets: https://www.bka.de/SharedDocs/Kurzmeldungen/DE/Kurzmeldungen/241031_Festnahme_Cybercrime.html

Within hours of that that federal seizure being published, customers stopped being able to login to their portal while it was "down for maintenance": https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/199068/solia-cloud-cannot-log-in

When the "maintenance" finally ended like a week later, all payment methods had been removed from their billing system, and the company has been running on autopilot since then.

I didn't realize that multiple of my servers have been hosted by feds for months.

Any TLDR on what and why the owner is arrest?

The linked article says the two arrested individuals were accused of trafficking of narcotics in considerable quantities and for computer sabotage by means of DDoS attacks. They co-operated the popular "Dstat.CC" DDoS service, as well as a clearnet marketplace for designer drugs and liquids.

It's suspected that their other companies like Solia.cloud were used for money laundering.

  • I did think to myself at the time, that the "maintenance" page was suspicious, as it warned to backup your files if maintenance took longer than expected...

DDOS for hire and Drug for sell, and likely using vps hosting to cover up their activity . What an odd combination :D

So how was uptime and your opinion about FAAS (Feds as a service)?

    Oh, that's a great relief!

I didn't realize that multiple of my servers have been hosted by feds for months.

Did they charge less than $7/month?

They missed the BF mega-thread, but please contact them and suggest they post some Easter offers at least.

I feel there's a huge potential for hidden Easter eggs 🥚

    Dude what? :D :D :D :D
    Money launder what? peanuts?

They seem to be using small business regulation § 19 Abs. 1 UStG. in Germany.
Basically not even VAT applicable. So 25.000€ Turnover per year or less.
Thats nothing. And then note: turnover. Not profit.

    See: https://solia.cloud/en/imprint

"Kein Ausweis der UstID, da Kleinunternehmer gemäß § 19 Abs. 1 UStG."

That must be a fucking joke.

Or where you charged VAT meanwhile and they didnt change that on imprint?

It hasnt even been as important to anyone for months, not noticed until you made this thread.

    Also;

WHMCS license seems to be paid however (seems Standard "admin")
    https://shop.solia.cloud/admin/login.php?redirect=/admin/

Otherwise it would show error Here If suspended for non-payment.

And Servers on this above asn seem also online. so...
    Its all just Strange.

Imagine what a customers of theirs that was previously suspended for torrenting would think while reading this:

    :D

  • What do you expect, skylink datacenter, aurologic ddos protection, tube-hosting transit, neterra IP leases. That is just the holy cocktail of WE ARE DOING CRIME

Was one of the best promos I've found.

    4.53€/month for essentially a 4 core 7950X VDS with 4GB ram and 3TB @ 1Gbps and then unlimited @ 100Mbps.

I would have kept this server forever if I could. Too bad the feds didn't add their own payment method so I could renew my 6 month billing cycle.

I thought they deadpooled when the whole Skylink data center went down, but many hours after power was restored at the DC, their servers finally came back online.

The feds obviously care about their customers.

    Too bad I can't renew :(

Now i wonder why the "fed" just let solia continues to auto-pilot for months? if it was really "fed"

They just want to baiting more conviction? or they just confiscated solia.cloud and just wait for all vps to expire?

Either just waiting for all servers to expire, which would be unusually nice of them, or else maybe some of their clients also use their servers for illegal activities.

Client server that haven't expired yet are still online right now. I should have paid a few years in advanced instead of only 6 months.

  • today i learned that not only PaaS and SaaS exist but also Cybercrime-as-a-Service (CaaS)

    thanks!

  • Come to think of it, my VPS was rock solid the first few months, but since around the time that the servers were seized, I started getting occasional kernel panics. Perhaps the hypervisor modifications the feds made to harvest data from the guest servers introduced the instability.

It's true that @Auroraa hasn't been active here on LET since October 2024, but couldn't these two events be a coincidence? (The two events are (i) the arrest of two individuals and (ii) the disappearance of @Auroraa from LET)

Hard to believe it could be a coincidence based on the timing alone lining up so perfectly, but there's another connection too.

The same people who ran the dstat.cc DDoS service, which was taken down by the seizure, also ran check-host.cc, which promoted Solia.cloud.

Sometime in the 3 days prior to the seizure notice being published, the owner completely disappeared from LET, Discord and stopped responding to all customers tickets.

The day before the seizure was published, a customer on their Discord said their server was suspended for no reason, and another user suggested "maybe taylan is jailed". That makes me believe the user knew something about Taylan's other business activities, possibly having been referred to Solia.cloud by him on another illegal platform.

I was very confused about this whole situation until I found the discovered the seizure, since their beefy host nodes remain online even now, with customer services that haven't expired being operational, even though they have virtually no customers left, have no employees, and have had no revenue for over 3 months. Would be the worst executed exit scam ever.

I agree that the timing is very suggestive, and you may well be right about the connection -- I just don't know enough about the background context, in particular, about how check-host.cc was related to Solia.cloud

I see that there's a (very?) plausible connection, but it seems to me that there's still a (small?) leap of faith required if we want to jump from the premise "Solia is promoted on check-host.cc" to the conclusion that Taylan and Solia.cloud were arrested/targeted by the feds

You may well be right, but we're still a bit short of irrefutable evidence, I think
