Wait, is there still a BuyVM? They sold it to some cloud ai nonsense... Is it AI's fault to not monitor RAID and drives? Can AI be sued?
The problem arises when you’ve made deliberate attempts to mislead your customers and conceal the sale of your company.
January 2025 is quite far from May 2023.
Again, my point still stands. This isn't any of our business.
I know even less about the owners of OVH, Hetzner, GreenCloud, HostHatch, Clouvider, Hybula or any of the other providers I use. All I can realistically do is look for companies that have been in business for a certain number of years, don't have a reputation for screwing over their customers, and trust that their company will treat my company's business data responsibly. If their business is sold, I also trust that the new owner intends to run it as a viable business, or else why did they buy them? I haven't yet had any reason to doubt the above companies.
TBH, I don't especially care about freedom of speech or otherwise. I've selected BuyVM because of their advertised unlimited data and ddos protection for a reasonable price, which I use to filter and load balance connections on the way to my various backends. If they suddenly went rogue, I'd just remove it from DNS, remove the wireguard keys from its peers and treat it like any other machine that might have gone down.
Yeah dude, you’re welcome to use whoever you want. Just know that DDoS protection is Path and not even FEDcisco trusts them, but he sells it to his own customers because Cloudflare are “glowies.” Good guy btw.
lol does it mean Chris from ChicagoVPS wasn't lying when he stated BuyVM was just a few servers sent to Buffalo?
it turns out Chris was not that bad after all
@CVPS_Chris still around?
does anyone know what's the the Canadian company name they sell under? I suppose financial records should be public like it is for all USA / EU companies, Canada isn't offshore heaven.
I think FEDcisco intentionally avoids Canada because they provide you with less safe harbor laws (the ones that he abuses for financial gain).
There is:
Cloudzy has different shells in the US (Wyoming), UK, and UAE. They were formerly known as RouterHosting.
I came here for drama and I stay here for drama
Who doesn't
the most amazing detail so far is that Karen is apparently a real person
Indeed
Bro, you're not in prison anymore.
Literally everyone knows the reason BuyVM exists and who they serve. To LARP as a Libertarian selling “law of the land hosting,” and then be a federal informant in real life is as corny as it can get.
It’s expected for normal US businesses and that’s no fault on them, just don’t mislead your customers when you know you’re handing over that data when the Feds come knocking. And especially don’t continue the grift if the grift is the main reason you want to sell and exit the business lmao.
Like I said, I don't think I had any critical there.. maybe there was.. I honestly don't remember... its pull in the data, rsync it to me, when it gets full I delete it all..
I don't think there was anything in there of real value.. and if so I should have moved it to local by now anyway.. if not it probably can be replaced.
I think me clogging up a request would be wasteful of time that could be spent on others with more critical needs than mine. Which is why I took the offer of a new slab, and credits, and move on...
I can understand, because a glitch, I had was similar in state. I am IIABDFI aka If it ain't broke don't fix! person... Everyone rail and froth at the mouth on that one all you want.. I am not running sudo apt-get update on a 30 second cron job (hyperbole? For some I don't think.. ).. So the issue came up.. cut to the chase.. had I done something different it probably wouldn't have been an glitch.. ok.. fine.. what'evs... I resolved it moved on... Self inflicted.. move on.
I got no complaints on this side.
Like I posted if I had critical data, like I was backing up TO the SLAB.. Yeah I'd probably be pretty uptight over it... So I get it.. Same if this would affect the slice back ups... etc..
In THIS case, FOR ME.. It ain't no thing... new slab, restart, reattach, move on...
I am VERY PLEASED HAPPY HAPPY CUSTOMER with BuyVM which is why I look at the changes with some trepidation. Warranted or not... I've been through the whole dance like this.. its how I ended up at BuyVM 11 years ago.
The man deserves it, he has been in the vps business way way back when i was still interested in running game server emulators. Its why i immediately bought his lifetime email, he deserves the trust.
Criminal mindset. Most people with morals do not have blanket protection for all people, they want pedophiles and murderers to be put in prison.
>
Whats your story? Who went under at that time?
Zeny please.
Francisco
OK.. throw that out there.. Objection! Facts not in evidence. So back it up. I will wait.. (Jeopardy theme begins...... )
Well I got ZERO COMPLAINTS in 11 years! Let me retype that 11 YEARS! Louder for those in back 11 YEARS!!!!!
Every thing has a glitch now and then... BuyVM is no different.. I don't think they have ever offered an SLA at 5 Nines level.. And I doubt any one on here is either, no I am not looking. And even if you post it.. I'd be suspicious about that level of uptime.. on VPS.. Thats pretty hard for a F50 company let alone those here!
Yeah its not.. AND YOUR POINT IS? Has no other provider on here had similar? Really?? Really?
Well.. I can tell you that I had CLIENTS AND WORK using BuyVM based on my experience with them. And they were all happy with that end.. The fork in the road came in that I am a 100% Linux only person. I don't deal with any non Linux stuff. They wanted to run back to crud virus stuff. And we parted ways.. I don't do that stuff any more. I am not interested in you if you don't share my view on IT things. And I can tell you that several F100 companies are going to pay big time because they've run to a certain company for "security" solutions. Yeah that ain't a company I would chose for "security!" They got hacked, still have not fessed up publicly, and will likely get it even more with their so called "security" solution.
Lastly, honestly your whole post seems to be that of a disgruntled customer. Yeah I am sure that some have had a bad experience with BuyVM, and maybe this one is the cherry on the cake. I happily have not had that. Yeppers I got boned in this incident.. fortunately it doesn't affect me that much. I SYNC from the storage to local storage. I don't have critical backups on there etc.. I honestly get it and feel for those going through this mess if they had critical data in peril on there. I get it.. I'd be mad as fire too.. I don't, and am not. So I don't know why you got your axes all sharpened up, and the torches, and tar on boil, and bags of feather for BuyVM... BUT
THIS 11 YEAR customer is happy, HAPPY! I hope it stays that way in the future. I have my strong doubts.. been there done that dance. Why I am at BuyVM.. we'll see.
💀 I respect your enthusiasm and wish you the best for another 11 years
I would agree pedophiles and murderers should be in prison.
Though that is different from welcoming a myriad of fuckery on your network for financial gain and trying to hide under safe harbor laws, handing over data when needed to save your own ass.
It’s no secret there’s a lot of scanning/spamming, piracy (both consumers and distributors), Tor exit nodes (which let’s face it: often lead to fuckery), and beyond from FranTech’s ASN.
AI-Powered datacentre, it's not going to end well
This taught me to always test my backups. I lost all data for one of my services, and a significant portion for another. The block storage has always been shitty, with brownouts before in my experience.
You get what you pay for, but other companies I tend to expect better from. I pay around the same amount for storage from Backblaze and I've never had an outage or failure from them. I'd warn anyone using BuyVM's storage to treat it as volatile storage and always keep recent backups, being ready to use them at any time.
I'm disappointed at the full data loss this time around though. Real shit thing to happen right after the acquisition.
One other thing I forgot to mention, which I brought up to staff before, which they failed to update on their website: their storage is not using infiniband anymore, it hasn't for a while. It uses standard ethernet, but they still advertise infiniband on the website. Not sure if all regions are ethernet, but at least a few of them are.
My luck is that I had the backup on backblaze, I only had to spend a few dollars to restore using rclone copy with --checksum
so what? Everyone who thinks someone will not comply with law enforcement for what, $105/months, most expensive buyvm package is plain retard.
I never felt mislead when signing up for their services. "law of the land" is pretty easy to understand: illegal things are not allowed, legal things are allowed. I need a host that won't kick me off for bullshit and is reasonably priced, and that's what BuyVM has been. I don't get how that's a larp or catering to larpers.
BuyVM claims to follow the "law of the land" principle. Does this not pretty clearly tell that they will follow the law? If so, how can you expect them to not hand over data when legally required?
I must be missing something here.
correct
Luxembourg laws are more strict than US laws.

"Blame Fran."
When must we stop blaming Fran?
Never knew BuyVM was no more Francisco's. Always thought he would be around forever. Do not visit LET for a few months and miss a lot of drama
