Party guys are here! WE just hanging out and lurking waiting on the next big hype wave

  • @chitree said:

Time to write the spam filter :sunglasses:

what would this spam filter of which you speak do :O I think someone has a chrome plugin or something that highlights posts with certain criteria or something

  • @chitree said:

Yeah, the snow can be brutal

ralf has got his sweater now (or will soon pending shipping)! We no longer need to fear or worry about his safety

    Thanked by 1ralf
  • How's everybody? Anything interesting happen yet?

  • @ralf said:
You probably don't even have real spam in the US.

Is spam even real or is it just a result of the Mendella Effect?

  • @chitree said:

That's exciting! This should get it's own thread when you release it so that it won't get list in the sea of the posts here

Noob made me worried about whether LET would approve of something like that or not.. so for now I decided to keep it to myself and kinda shut it down with less than an hour or 2 of dev work left. It was a good learnign experience atleast but dont want to make anyone angry

    Who?

    yeah, who?

    Still a mystery.

    Mysteries are fun though

  • @chitree said:

Or he went to go see how to make that happen

He indeed did go and make it happen! Ralf is the proud owner of some sweater swag now! Hope it is everything he ever dreamed it would be!

I guess one man's spam is another man's treasure...

A lot of people here do actually enjoy eating a delicious meal of spam. The topic has come up a few times and it seems while the food may be generally perceieved as nasty, or gross, a large amount of people here actually do enjoy consuming it despite how bad it might actually be for you

    Nothing interesting yet! :(

  • YO YO YO BAS! WELCOME BACK TO THE PARTY

  • Is Bybeview a good name for a youtube alternative? :) (starting another project   )

There is no "LET would approve" or not approve. Just create the thread. This is your community too!

If you're selling it, it's a different matter, you'd need a Provider tag. If it's free and open source, people will either like it or just not read the thread.

There's a possibility that some of the admins might not want too much encouragement for bots crawling the site, especially for grabbing deal, but for stats, I think it's fair game. There was tacit approval of another one for the megathread. Maybe you can also chat to @lukast__ and swap ideas too? Maybe it's something you might want to work on together.

BTW, @BasToTheMax - also I meant to suggest but forgot... One of the best ways you know you've understood something is to try to explain it. Once you get your wireguard VPN working, do a quick write up and throw it into a thread. Happy to double check or proof read it first if you want. Also fine if you just cut and paste stuff any the examples I wrote into it if you want to save time. But explaining it in your words will help you, and help others too as it's something a lot of people want to achieve with their VPN and the documentation is scattered all over the place. There's also a final step I need to explain about the client config if you want to use this as a VPN, but get the basic thing working so you can ping over the wireguard link first.

Just found your comment, you might have somehow got the hash wrong. https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/4196288/#Comment_4196288

It should look like mine in the post above, so maybe that's why he never found it.

Yeah what i got is pretty much usable now. It doesnt do the stats but it gets thread data into a sqlite table so that you can query against it to generate whatever stats you would like.

My only thought is that throwing it up there makes it easier for people to misuse it. I.e. anyone can just copy paste it essentially now and run it with an uncontrolled throttle easily to spam the site. I guess thats why you should have ddos protection though

I think he is usually ok with some variations on the hashtag. It doesnt need to be bolded nessecarily nor have the hash. This is just going off of what i remember from the BF thread though... whatever state rules are overrides that

That giveaway was a lot longer away than yesterdays... but for what its worth he didnt send yesterdays results either. He is usually really quick about doing that immediately after the giveaway

  • @DaDeveloper said:

I got 3 different packages during the BF thread. I would've been cool with waiting for one batch at the very end of the thread :) Seemed expensive to ship it all individually

And, can your parents do remote hands if you need to check something physically?

My dad no, my mom has some knowledge that I can call. Worst case, I do have a pikvm there where I can ask her to connect the hdmi and usb cables so I can further troubleshoot if I can't access the device over the network (do have a site-to-site vpn between my lan and theirs)

Oh that's actually a great setup you have there. Also for connecting are you using plain old SSH or do you have a VPN as well like Tailscale or something?

I just use ssh and vnc/rdp as needed. Sometimes I do use the pikvm depending on what actually needs to be done. If I'm at home, I can just target those machines directly. If I'm away from home, I either vpn into my home network (then target them) or I will ssh in and tunnel the required ports.

Ah ok. I am planning to Tailscale my home connection. Still trying to figure out the specifics of DNS as I have a dynamic IP at home.

When using the Tailscale network you can use the built in DNS, and use the domains they provide. I generally just copy/paste the Tailscale IP from the app though as it's super convenient.

Tailscale instead of running an OpenVPN or Wireguard server?

Yes. Build your own private network with VPS, PCs, routers (with custom firmware), anything that has enough storage to install it. You can even configure them to act as an endpoint so you can connect to the internet through them.

I'll have to explore this tailscale further
