Ty for doing the leg work! I was curius to know if this worked as well! You ran it on a racknerd vps? Any side effects? Everything look good in the client area and solusvm? I was worried it might be missing some setup hook doing it this way

  • Anyone can confirm if we had any GA or flash sales in the last 9hours? Knowing my luck I probably missed out on one again

Yeah just was curious if the admin panel needed some sort of informing of what was going on it. Not too familiar with that type of software

Nice! I should've figured since we are all racknerders in here. I'm gonna plan on using this route now for my 2.5GB in LA if that ever goes back in stock. Worst case I have a 1GB idler but not sure if i was gonna hang onto that one

I can't wait to buy some more once they become available. 1GB might be ok but like having some more space to run if needed. Biggest thing I need st the moment is that LA location! Checking daily for stock to pop in

Yeah that's what I'm wondering a bit about as well. I wonder where the data centers they use are in relation to fires going on. I guess there are probably bigger issues on hand in the LA area that adding capacity isn't even on their mind yet.. makes sense.

Price is a bit of a bump too.. I just need to figure out what adjustments I can make so that I can direct funds to vps purchases rather than something else

Just caught this message. Is it really still 20 days!? Such a long time for the hype to keep going! We have to do our best.

I feel like I have been in thread for years already at this point. I eat sleep drink and breathe racknerd all day every day ;)

Going to be a fun time full of interesting conversations, GAs and flash sales I'm sure! With each passing hour it's another chance that we'll see another GA. Perhaps even a GA for the coveted sweaters!

Yeah hope they are all ok. I heard it was getting better a day or 2 ago but it seems to be taking off again. Fighting nature is a difficult battle. Also heard there are suspected arsonists involved as well now..

Hopefully they get it.under control soon. I think they were expecting a windy day Monday too which is going to help it spread even more

    Thanked by 1DeusVult
  • RackNerd is based in California, so is @dustinc but so far they're alright! Those fires are crazy bad though.

And, can your parents do remote hands if you need to check something physically?

My dad no, my mom has some knowledge that I can call. Worst case, I do have a pikvm there where I can ask her to connect the hdmi and usb cables so I can further troubleshoot if I can't access the device over the network (do have a site-to-site vpn between my lan and theirs)

Oh that's actually a great setup you have there. Also for connecting are you using plain old SSH or do you have a VPN as well like Tailscale or something?

I just use ssh and vnc/rdp as needed. Sometimes I do use the pikvm depending on what actually needs to be done. If I'm at home, I can just target those machines directly. If I'm away from home, I either vpn into my home network (then target them) or I will ssh in and tunnel the required ports.

Ah ok. I am planning to Tailscale my home connection. Still trying to figure out the specifics of DNS as I have a dynamic IP at home.

When using the Tailscale network you can use the built in DNS, and use the domains they provide. I generally just copy/paste the Tailscale IP from the app though as it's super convenient.

Tailscale instead of running an OpenVPN or Wireguard server?

  • Should I use Supabase or Pocketbase for my next site?

Yes. Build your own private network with VPS, PCs, routers (with custom firmware), anything that has enough storage to install it. You can even configure them to act as an endpoint so you can connect to the internet through them.
