I heard that is why they do control fires too. Eventually you get so much brush built up everywhere that it can lead to a huge fire. Theres a research out there about how putting out fires is actually making the fires much more danagerous and destorying parts of the forest because they dont go through this natural "purging" cycle

California use to do controlled burning, but their focus was on hiring the "right" people instead of preparing to fight fires.
