Well, the AUP is really strict though, more than 300MB/sec for 10 minutes and you are toast.
You done it for hours, so yea.

Same issue I had on microLXC, people adding swap files to run fucking docker on 256MB KVM.
Pain in the arse, I can understand virmach here.

Holding customer's data hostage unless they pay $40 for "breaking" their unreasonable fair share policy. @emgh quick, add this to your ways of monetizing freaky.hosting. This + $15 / forwarded abuse email should make you some nice bucks.

    The 40$ is listed though

"$40.00 for any suspension that necessitates manual processing outside our automated system"

Guess, he hasn't automated I/O abuse detection yet.
The 10$ ones are not listed though.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has one working quality server where he hosts free services gifted to admins and moderators, and then scams everybody else, because I can't think of any other reason why he still has a provider tag and isn't banned. :D

yeah that's a bit serious accusation don't you think.

I dunno if it’s blackmail that’s like me getting my car clamped parking in the wrong place and saying the same thing when they ask for money to take it off.

But anyway I read on the other forum not long ago Virmach say they might look into their suspension fee because it isn’t working out very well. But this was on the promo thread I’ve no idea if the promo servers have like a 100usd fee to unsuspend

I think they realized that they rarely receive the $40, but instead get completely shat on on forums like LET and they'd rather save themselves from bad PR.

My question would be, isn't it possible to throttle specific user automatically after some time, based on their CPU or RAM usage.

It's literally what AWS and Oracle uses for CPU... you accumulate "burst time" that you can use to go above your x% baseline cpu allowance.

For disk, just limit iops per vm. Noone needs 1GB / s read and write.. what for.

The trick is to have a jacket with TONS of pockets for all your stuff, as well as a bunch of clothes under it. Also layers of pants if needed.

And a flexible bag, so once boarded, you just put it all in the bag again.

This is what I learned when I flew a lot as a poor student.

Nextcloud won't work well on 1.5GB.
You need to upgrade to 4GB RAM.

Fair enough, I have chosen my options 4. Other than that, I'm just sharing what happened and hoping it gets out to potential users who don't accept their nonsense. I'm not willing to take my money back, I'm just willing to expose it.

Also: Do this AFTER security check. Having 3 layers of pants, 6 layers of jackets/tops and 10 kg of stuff in your pockets is not recommended when passing security :D

Virmach i dont think is an intentional scam or fraud, but both hardware configuration/stability and uptime are his biggest enemies. certainly not for anything half serious.

unfortunately from previous years i was willing to spend $25/yr/vps for a larger 4C4G, but now $7 would be the sweet spot for a 2C2G50GB and above with zero expectations or even expect it to migrate/consolidate at some time.

however looking at BF/CM deals here Virmach's arent as fragrant as they used to be.

Well with those strict rules I wouldn't want to be on stress 24/7. You can get a good deal with them but if your server gets suspended for a BS reason, that would suck.

I add the keyword in the title for the search engine query.

  • lol 😂 Just pay the $40 and maybe also give him a shoulder massage and beg for lifting the suspension because you seem not only stupid enough to pay Virmache, but you trusted them enough to run a Nextcloud instance. Folks here wouldn’t trust Virmache to run even apt update since 2020 or so.
