Question is, can this be called spamming?
The Great Fire of London (1666) was one of the first examples of using the approach of sacrificing buildings in a controlled way so that when the fire reached them there was nothing left to burn, and so it would just stop at that point. This is usually called a "firebreak" (as opposed to "firewall" which is a large mass of unburnable material like concrete).
The problem in LA is that there a multiple weather factors at play. Apparently it's been incredibly hot and dry, so any vegetation will burn very easy, and the windspeeds are incredibly high at the moment - I've been hearing reports of over 100mph in the news. So the problem is that any burning embers can get caught by the wind and carried over a very long distance. On the news reports I've seen, one reporter said they were travelling over a mile in some case. Mostly embers are too small to start a fire and fizzle out quickly, but occasionally you get one that's big enough to hold its heat long enough to ignite some of the dry vegetation, but small enough that it can still be taken quite a way on the wind, and you suddenly get small patches of fire quite a long way from the leading edge of the main fire. If there's enough material around, that can easily grow big enough to turn into something that can sustain itself and expand.
So, the problem is that because these embers can travel a lot further than is usual in fires because of the high winds, there's no practical way to build a firebreak without causing billions of dollars of damage to clear even a block wide line of houses, and let's be real - nobody really wants to sacrifice their home this way to save someone else's, especially when it might not work anyway, or possibly if the wind direction changes, the fire might stop before reaching your (now destroyed) building. Pretty much all that can be done is hope that natural firebreaks like freeways, rivers, parks, etc. stop the fire from crossing them, and trying to put out all the little fires from the embers before they grow large enough to be a new problem. Given how much smoke there will be everywhere, it's going to be quite tough to spot these situations until they're already quite worrying.
Hope everyone there stays as safe and as positive mentally as they can be.
Nope, I was offline
Not an issue. We got 21 days left on the thread. Guess Dustin's gonna be more active now. But the only burning question is, will the mysterious Chef return for more action?!!
BTW, can someone DM me (tagging might not work) as you DM, I get email, when there's a giveaway. I don't wanna win anything, but just wanna join in. I love the adrenaline rush that comes with these giveaways.
This was me this morning as I emerged from my duvet:

Well, there is a time lapse function on the Stats page, and it already has enough data to find these anomalies
It's awesome what the stats page can do.
Hey dude, how's it going?
where? who won?
ahh cool didnt even realize that was a thing. I forget that theres like a whole section at the bottom. I rediscovered the bottom half the other day when i looked at the posts per day section. I didnt realize i was like 3 days late and everyone else was well on their way by that point
these days life has been so mess that I can't even keep up now 🫠😂
BTW epic has maybe again released a free game for some time so if you waana grab you can
Btw how are you all?
BTW im working on a basic python lib that can be used as a helper to build similar stats pages.. I will dump that into public domain when its ready. All the api calls are there, just need to hook it up to sqlite to do some tracking so you only get notifications of new posts and it doesnt waste cycles looking at pages you already viewed
