Congratulations to both parties and glad Francisco is staying there.

    Quick feedback

    No more non "Emergency" tickets

Above doesn't really make sense, you use both "non" but also quotes on emergency, meaning no real emergency tickets?

    This would be better:

    No more "Emergency" tickets

    Or:

    No more non-emergency Emergency tickets

The people that want to sell GDPR complaint email hosting don't use us. It's @hyperblast
and others are going to have an aneurism if we don't put cranemail IN EU.

My knowledge might be outdated, but compliance goes beyond the mere location - talking about data localization vs data residency. Even Microsoft struggled with compliance or was marked as possibly not-complied, for multiple reasons. When the first and second version of the EU-US privacy shield were invalidated / the transfer of (almost) any data became legally challenging, as the legal foundation was gone and lack of oversight, amount of data collected, lack of transparency were just some problems. There is a list of ,safe’ countries, like Uruguay (😅). The US was re-added in 2023 due to the new (and kinda 3rd attempt) EU-US data privacy framework. So… people screaming for servers within the EU might just want to go the easy route - which does not mean it’s compliant to the GDPR. A provider from the US is still bound by US laws and if this new privacy shield fails once more, we will be in hot water again - and a legal battle is already being prepared by the people who killed the first two frameworks.

i assume and urgently expect that cranemail will regulate everything in accordance with gdpr so that we in the EU(dSSR) are finally in a safe harbor.

I get it, and the mail product isn't marketed as a big privacy focused product. We do our best there, but we aren't PGP'ing and marketing it as that. People want it as a business suite first and foremost, which is why namecrane will stick to NL it looks like.

Hannan is seriously looking into CH at the moment for BuyVM since they had been wanting to POP there themselves for a while now.

    @emgh please be nice.

    Francisco

so for me, switzerland would also be a good compromise for cranemail!

@emgh said: @Francisco do you this the above link is adequate to go Swiss and keep @hyperblast off your back?

Remember, this is likely to be the fork in the road between Namecrane and BuyVM. BuyVM will, god willing, probably go CH, and Namecrane will be in NL as our primary EU location w/ Cranemail.

With that being said, nothing stops Namecrane from adding CH as a satellite location where we rent a few U's from BuyVM to do shared/resellers. I'm not sure what demand we'd have, but we'd start with just a handful of nodes.

    Francisco

as long as you don't offer @emgh and @Saragoldfarb any more services in the eu, no matter if NL or CH, everything is fine with me! ;)

    Very.

Our meeting last night was very productive and Hannan wants me to move forward with hunting down quotes. His staff are also following up with some facilities they were talking to a year or two ago.

    For BuyVM he prefers CH>NL.

Likely yes. Likely NL. Likely with option to choose CH.

We've talked with the heads there. I've talked with the root guys. I've talked to supposed remote hand groups.

We have bigger issues there with the transport provider we use to get to HE. We had a 3 week capacity degradation (basically they either oversold things or broke some links) where we could only use 1/3rd of our port, meaning things went to hell every day during peak. They took their sweet time to fix it, and we got no SLA or anything.

Its just a pain in the ass and has been for a long time.

Yes Crane will go on its own. Everything will move to Netherlands and then we'll add some nodes in CH for those that want to be there.

Cranemail would be in NL. We'd also move one of the spamexperts relays to NL and give it its own IP block to send from. This means a users emails could come, and go out, from cranemail EU w/o ever leaving EU/GDPR land.
