    Me as well. Been saving money for an SSD for my PC/Media server.

    My home server is still booting from HDDs because I'm lazy. It's frustrating if I need to reboot, otherwise, it works well enough.

    Mine is an Android box :lol:
    Tried using 2.5 inch 5400rpm drives for storage but the box can thandle it I guess.

    Ah, mines just an old linux desktop with a bunch of random HDDs in it and a very messy docker setup.

    I might have to move to something like that very soon. The Android box isnt exactly cutting it. But that's all I have for now.

    I found a pc in a dumpster that is actually my server. People left personal info on it too but i wiped it all first because ethics

    I really don't understand most people in developed countries who just dispose off their electronics for trivial issues.

    I blame Microsoft and Apple for that - people always be needed the latest hardware to run those crappy OSes meanwhile Linux works well on hardware from decades ago.

    Yah, moreover its their stance against right to repair. At some point, Ig people have just become habituated to throwing out slightly blocked hardware cause they think it's unrepairabek

    The hw microsoft runs on is pretty repairable, people just dont know how :( Apple on the other hand..

    There's actually a Canadian repairman with a aYT channel that has been protesting for years against this practice.

    Alpine doesn't use a lot of resources, so the server can use more :wink:

    Oh yes. Currently have the webserver on Ubuntu. Have a Docker container with Alpine to test some stuff out. If all goes well. Will move everything to Alpine soon.

    It has been quite for some time now. Realised that only after the experts on the thread pointed it out :lol:

    I had never even heard of it, but i've always limited myself to looking at the bigger distributions, if you will

    Me as well. I used Alpine sparingly in the past for chroots and for building busybox packages. But, never knew it had the potential to run something serious or big like a webserver.

    Nextcloud and Matrix servers run really well on Alpine. I have not tried it on the desktop yet, but will eventually.

    Put it on your desktop PC w/ a gui front end? Or do you mean just putting it on a "desktop" pc?

    I mean daily drive it with X or Wayland

    They have buckets of them at some stores in the US. If you can find a microcenter they are bountiful but hard to find a microcenter

    I love MicroCenter! That's where I get all my Pi's from.

    How much do they cost at MC?

    Usually $10 less than MSRP. So a RPI 5 8GB is $69.99

    Those are good prices, if I am not wrong. They cost much more here

    Yeah they have surprisingly good prices for a brick and mortar store. The best part is I can drive 15 minutes and get one locally. Like last Christmas (Dec 2023) when RPI 5 was back ordered until like March everywhere online, I was able to grab an RPI 5 a few days before Xmas.

    I try to buy anything I can from MicroCenter instead of online to hopefully help them stay in business.
