I updated my server to 4vcs... Let's see if it will work

What's 4vcs? Is it virtual cores? If yes, that won't automatically disable transcoding but would only help handling the transcoding load very minimally.

Yeah... It's impossible to disable it seems so...

Guys, i need help... my jellyfin server is buffering a lot because its transcoding... any idea of how to direct play it?

As I had mentioned earlier, go to their client downloads page and only use their official clients to play. When you play using th browser or anything else, it will transcode, as a normal mostly.

    did that and still transcodes...

What OS are you trying this on and what client did you use?

I'm trying on Windows and I'm using their app

  • It says bit rate limit exceeded

Try another video format and see if it still transcodes.

That's unfortunate. I am thinking it's because you are using some unsupported format. Can you check the video format?

Where does it say that? On the server or the client?

Mkv is almost 50/50 for me. I'd recommend H264 MP4. Try a sample video and see if it transcodes as well.

  • Also, if you have Android, check their Android client and see if it still transcodes.

Sad thing is that you can't find a lot of torrents (specially in private trackers) with mp4 format

your adventures are making me not want to try it out ;) Plex has gone well for me thus far. I was passively watching this jellyfin saga to weigh some possible options if i didnt want to use plex anymore

Could always run them through a converter yourself? I am asssuming you might lose some quality somewhere in that chain though.. but maybe not noticable on your final destination?

Yah. With Jellyfin, MKV is a hit and miss. On some clients I saw that it played well, but not universally.
