Irc and xmpp is superior to discord. Just people who tends to use internet mutated and forgot good old ways. Simple, elegant, free.

discord definitely has benefits, but it's not really a replacement for irc imo.
ive got channels on efnet coming up on 30 years old, there's only 2 or 3 of us left there idling forever but it's kinda awesome when old regulars pop back in to say hi.

This project is nostalgic, educational and of course fun. Since it's a more raw and direct mean of communication, my hope is that this will bring community closer.

In the beginning it was some form of shareware with a free trial that basically never expired. Later they changed that to actually require a license when the trial expired, so a lot of people bought lifetime licenses. Those "lifetimes" were later revoked in some really shitty way, don't remember the details but he basically buttfucked everyone that had paid for lifetime.
Also, it's mIRC (lowercase m). It's a big deal for some people.
