Check if ThinLinc works for you. I prefer it to NoMachine - https://cendio.com/thinlinc/download/

This doesn't support a macOS server, unfortunately, which is the specific use case in question. Otherwise, though, this looks to be excellent and trustable.

    Thanked by 1vr10

I used to remote access my Lubuntu server through x2go but since I switched to NoMachine I don't use anything else.

This is to remote access macOS, which mean x2go is a no-go.

Tailscale then rdp or vnc that’s what I do

Again, does not appear to support macOS VPS.

    Really nice necros.

Nonsense! It's a relevant, niche topic for a very specific use case which is not widely talked about. I personally encountered the situation in question and a fairly robust web search didn't provide fantastic suggestions.

I joined LET genuinely seeking suggestions from people who mostly know what they're talking about and have something useful to say. I got some pretty good suggestions this year, too, one of which is arguably the very best overall. Most importantly, myself, @AlexTheRock, @lowendtalkxdax, @ScreenReader, and @Flummi have put out a good warning to the naive. :D

But nevermind any of that, what was your really nice contribution to the LET community with your response?

    MeshCentral Self hosted

This one looks to tick so many boxes.

Careful with any remote control software that‘s hosted in somewhere not in your reach.
AnyDesk for example just got hacked recently. Self-hosted is definitely the superior solution.

For business use it’s ok (e.g. client support) but not for accessing private machines. Me personally, I don’t like the feeling of someone I don’t know having permissions to do stuff on my computers. With AnyDesk and TeamViewer it’s just an unencrypted string.

Sadly commercial remote software almost do not provide self-hosted option. Better use VPN if security matters

I usually use chrome remote desktop
It's just NoMachine without the bugs

It was considered as a straightforward, "lazy" solution. Some would have their reservations here, and rightly so. How do you reckon that equivalence?
